Another slow session with the only barbel of the day at 5.15pm and an eel at last knockings. Conditions not ideal but still a pleasure to be on this stretch.

Stu fished the inspection chamber swim and had 6 chub and a nice 9.13 barbel at dusk. John fished the swim above and never had a touch. Just goes to show how fickle the Wye can be.

River has dropped back and the bright sunny sky in the morning made it hard going. Only one barbel and a few small chub before lunch. Afternoon improved as clouds built and the other barbel came late on and included a 10.15, the only barbel bite I had all day but it was worth it. We are booked again tomorrow.

My first day at the fishery and my recent river fishing experience is limited, but I put in an 11 hour shift so obviously disappointed with my catch (one eel, all day)! Lovely stretch of river and conditions seemed good so no excuses but the only other angler on the beat that morning had no joy either. Was it a change in barometric pressure with the approaching storm or that Sahara sand, which also turned the sun into a tangerine about mid-day?

River was fining down after a 2 foot rise the day before and was in good form, helped by unseasonably warm temperatures and some good cloud cover. We started in the wood swim and had a couple of Barbel and some small chub before moving up to the meadow. Using standard feeder and pellet tactics we managed a further 10 Barbel throughout the day, to just shy of 10lb with most fish in the 7-8lb bracket and at least 3 being over 9lb. A fantastic day on the river at a lovely time of year.

We started at the top section of courtfield but with no success so moved further down on the bend under the trees. We both caught steadily all afternoon on the stickfloat and feeder with the biggest chub being 5.5lb.
Sadly no barbel made an appearance.
