With a 13 degree overnight temperature swing from last week and 4 days of double digit day temperatures, the Wye certainly seemed worth a crack. Arrived in 9 degrees to find a coloured river rising from 1.6m (came up 40cm during the day) and overcast. Water temp unknown as I've still not replaced my lost thermometer.
Chatted to JC from Reading before starting, us down the bottom him up the top. I had a 3lb chub second bung but then nothing for 2 1/2 hours. Steve had not a sniff for 2 hours, moved then had 2 barbel in an hour (3 and 6 plus on meat). I moved below him at 1200 knowing JC hadn't had anything up the top, and after an hour and a swap to a hemp and maggot feeder with a big bunch of maggots, had an 8lb barbel from my only bite of the afternoon. Packed up at 1600 and had a good chat with JC, who didn't blank either, before leaving.
It feels so much more satisfying to catch in the winter, having read the conditions and taken a chance. Triffic!

Despite decent looking conditions with a rising river and warm temps it was an extremely tough day. Lost one fish to a snag early on and after that just a few bites that didn’t materialise and another lost fish. We both tried a variety of baits, Pellet, Maggot, Meat and paste wrapped Boilees but they didn’t fancy it.

Water temp still low? Either way still a lovely day to be on the river.

Caught on Spam in the upper field. Many fast chub bites which couldn't hit, but nevertheless an enjoyable day.

Sadly blankety blank for me today. Tough conditions and packed up at 3pm when the wind became just too much. Tried many swims, tactics and baits but not even a knock all day.
