First time on Courtfield. River was up and pacey - not easy and lost a lot of tackle. However fish were feeding and really pleased to catch 12 barbel and 5 chub. My mate had 6 barbel and 1 chub up to 9.12. Challenging but great sport.

Nice stretch, only 2 out of the 4 pegs had fish holding there so very frustrating for the other 2 anglers.

River was flowing quite fast and rose around 6inches during the day. Tactics were hair-rigged pellets and swim-feeder into the crease just off the main flow. A lot of tree debris (very large branches) came down the river during the day as a result of tree cutting activity just upstream of where we were fishing; we were surprised that they were able to just dump the tree debris into the river....
This was our first time on the water and we had a very enjoyable session. The main difficulty was finding the car parking areas which are difficult to locate on a busy road and very limited.
Many thanks, we hope to visit again soon. Steve Thompson

Started up in the wooded section, I had 6 barbel and 1 chub in morning on feeder and pellet but Steve did not have a bite so we moved down to the meadow in the afternoon where then steve had 5 barbel (including a personal best of 10lb 8oz), 2 chub and an eel. I finished the day with 9 barbel and 4 chub, all fish were good size.

Arrived at 8am to find the river looking good after some rain at the weekend. We selected a comfortable swim for the pair of us and I landed a 9lb barbel on the second cast! We got some great advice from Don, Tony netted a 4.5lb barbel and lost a couple more fish, so we decided to try other swims as the sun had now come out. Early afternoon I had another 9lb barbel and a 4lb and 4.5lb chub. By early evening we were sunburnt but the action was more consistent and I managed another 4 barbel, including another 9lb fish and a number of chub.
A great day on the Wye with good size barbel - 6 fish for 50lb - on a great stretch and I gave Tony a taste of his own medicine following the pasting I received on the first outing of the season!

Having read the advanced information we planned to fish the meadow but arrived to find two anglers already on there. We happened to bump into Don on the bank who helped us find two decent swims in the woods.
It was our last day of the trip so we only managed to fish 10-3 before having to make the trip back north. I managed two good barbel, both 8lb+ and a chub of around 4.5lb. My fishing partner managed just one smallish chub.
Much like the day before on another stretch upstream it felt like we hadn't got the tactics quite right. It also felt that it would have switched on more had we been able to stay on until dusk.
We liked the stretch and would definitely fish it again.

Returning to the Wye after a fabulous week last year, this time I brought my wife with me and today was her first outing!! I am not sure which of us was more anxious. It was a grey overcast day, but warm. The river had a good colour but wasn't chugging through and there wasn't any floating weed, logs or other obstructions apart from the steady flow of canoes. Having introduced the Mrs to the basics and how and why we would be fishing a hair rigged pellet below a swim feeder, we moved onto casting. Fortunately the swim we had was wide enough for two and provided access to water level. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly she picked it up. Needless to say she had the first bite and the adrenalin kicked in, she didn't know what had hit her, so I took over and just as well, the fight was on. 15 minutes later we had 'her' first barbel in the net at 9lb 8oz!! The day carried on like this with a regular bites and about a fish an hour. the other barbel were 5lb, 2x 8lb and 10lb dead. The two chub were healthy and were around 3 and 4lb respectively. The other was an eel! It was a great day, plenty of wildlife the canoes weren't really a problem and generally polite. It was a great introduction for the Mrs. I was convinced she would enjoy a day on the Wye and I wasn't wrong. She may be hooked!
