River was swollen and fast running, making wading difficult. Was clarity was low. No fish caught and nothing rising until an hour before dusk when some activity started towards to banks. Stonefly hatch was promising, but no fish caught. May have been better in calmer conditions..

Last chance saloon for this angler. River stayed above 1.0m all day but a very fishable colour. The temp of 2 degrees was the lowest of the season. Had a very enjoyable day greatly enhanced by the entertaining company of a kindred spirit in visiting angler Matt from Devon. Had one pull which was probably from a big trout.. Saw a fresh looking fish in the high teens leave the water in the Chine. An enjoyable season in spite of underlying concerns about salmon stocks this season. It’s a long wait till March.

We had problems with access at a different fishery in the morning and the passport office suggested a move to Chain bridge for the afternoon. The office were made aware of issues with knee replacements and we received a call from the owner of the fishery offering information about access and the fishing which was useful and gratefully accepted. We fished the left bank above the bridge and although the sun was bright and warm some trout did rise to hatch towards the shaded right bank. Although several trout came to dry fly, no takes happened but all fishing enjoyed the afternoon and evening

Nothing caught, river very high and murky. This spot is also very difficult for wading and accessibility down to the pools on the left bank.

Began fishing around 17:30. River high, fast and opaque. Very difficult to get down to the river and wading hard. Fished till 9pm unsuccessfully, although there were fish rising under the bridge on the monitoring station side.

A great day on the river organised by Barri and where we had the expert fishing support and company of Lee Davies.
One Salmon was hooked but not landed, although this did not detract from the real pleasure/experience of the day, which was unfortunately cut short by the sudden surge of coloured water coming down the river following the torrential rain of the day before.

We finally got to fish the beat having won the session in a W&UF auction back in November 2020! It was great fun and a genuinely memorable day. Barri the owner was really accommodating in terms of being flexible and fitting our visit in - Covid lockdowns in 2021 and last year's extended hot dry spell preventing us going before now. We couldn't have asked for more from him, having got regular phone call updates in the intervening period.

The guide Barri provided for the day - local man Lee Davis - was first class, an excellent teacher for the three of us, all fairly experienced river fly fishermen but totally new to salmon fishing and spey casting. A few hours of hands-on casting tuition was followed by a superb lunch and a good afternoon of fishing with ongoing support and advice from Lee. It's a shame the salmon proved elusive, but we were all 'hooked' nonetheless, and will be back to try again...
