Condition of river was good, water fairly clear. Caught one brown trout about a pound and a half which was returned unharmed. Found wading difficult over the river even with felt sole boots. Watched lots of wild life which was good, good day out.

River 0.8m steady perfect colour. Fished for 6 hrs in company of much more expert salmon anglers than myself. No sightings of Salmo Salar. Are they all at Brecon and Sennybridge? Olives hatching and a reasonable rise in afternoon. This was ignored because of my affliction [salmon madness].

Arrived at 10am with river 1.06m on the gauge carrying a lot of colour but [just] fishable. In the next 1 1/2hrs four trout of 3lb, 2lb, 1 1/2lb and 6 ozs all agreed and hurled themselves at flying c. below the bridge. Then fished Rock and enjoyed a wonderful hour alongside Tom Richards [of the wuf] who is both very entertaining company and a mine of information. Fishing at the weekend when river should be in better order, although it had dropped 7cms before I packed up at 6pm without a sign of salmo salar. I am already always a glass half full person, but Tom inspires even greater confidence. Just a matter of time!

Low water, cloudy with a strong downstream wind. One coloured hen Salmon 32 inches. Taken from Rock Pool on a size 10 Salar double Bann shrimp variant on a floating line. The fish didn't leave the water and swam of very strongly after a minute or so.
Fished for trout for much of the afternoon (until 18.00). 15-20 fish on Duo with 50% of fish coming to Olive Klink vauiant and the other half on a size 18 PTN jig.
A good day on a lovely beat. Thank you.

I managed an undernourished Grilse of about 3lbs which should have weighed at least 4lb and not very fresh, but very welcome nontheless in avoiding being 'skunked' yet again on the Usk. I was wading opposite the huge dead floating tree/log in the Rock pool (or Chine?) when the fish took a size 10 double Usk grub variant fished with a floating line. The fish went back fine.
My pal Bob also had a take when he fished the Rock pool later in the day, alas it did not take hold properly and thrashed on the surface before getting off. Bob thought it a similar sized grilse to mine or possibly a seatrout.
We fished 'gentleman' hours from about 11am to 4pm as we'd had a long day fishing Llandegfedd reservoir the day before and had a long drive home to Berks/Hants. We stayed at the Kings Head in Usk which was excellent in all respects and with very reasonable prices - highly recommended!
It was a good day for fly fishing - clear water and mostly cloudy. We didn't see any fish (other than trout) show.
I don't think the beat has nearly enough fishing for 3 salmon fly fishermen. Fortunately there were only two of us!

2 rods, one salmon and one trout. Arrived early and water was clear but low. Salmon rod fished above the bridge with Flying Cs, Mepps and Devon minnow with no success. No salmon seen. Fly rod fished below the bridge. A lovely stretch of river but limited to about 100 yards because access is difficult due of heavily overgrown steep banks. Tried wets, nymphs and dries but nothing caught which was probably due to my skills and the need to master roll casting. Had to leave at 5.30 when a limited amount of surface activity was starting.

I fished for salmon with fly above and below the Rock without result while my companion coarse fished below the Chime. I caught nothing but M had a chub of 5lb 15oz. This is the biggest chub I have seen for a long time.

J P fished 6.30am - 9am with double hander from top of beat to Chine with no takes. Water 0.6m and gin clear. No fish moving. I fished with guest G T from 3.45pm - 6.45pm for both salmon and trout on sub surface team with no result. The odd trout showing but of no size.Suspect late fish not coming through until next high water.

No salmon caught 2 seen. 2 small trout caught took a size 5 mep spoon intended for salmon both realesed. Excelent beat. The owner Barry is very helpfull. I think no catch was more down to my lack ao skill than lack of fish. I am fairly new to salmon fishing. I had a fantastic day out in beutifull surroundings. Not sure if I will make it again this season but I will definatly be back with some new tactics in the Spring.
