3 x trout 6-10 inches, Monnow Gosling. A very humid day with cloud and spots of rain - without actually raining properly if you see what I mean. The bottom end of this fishery is really in a desperate case now for lack of water. I met the EA rep down there who was checking the conditions and he told me they are quite close to making a decision for fish rescue, as has been done in the past during dry summers on this section of river which has a great tendency to lose its flow. I did find a few small ones rising at the top end, but I think I have missed my chance on this one for this year, or at least until we have some serious rain.

A lovely warm sunny day. A lot of insect life about, especially midges. The river was very low and gin clear. No fish rising, saw a few trout in the depths. One turned and followed my nymph but was not tempted to take it. Numerous variety of flies and nymphs tried but could not tempt any fish.
Despite the ‘nil return’ an excellent day out with an old friend, situated in a most scenic part of Shropshire. Thoroughly enjoyable. With more conducive conditions this would be an ideal spot. Will certainly return here.

River quite low and dropping. Morning overcast with occasional rise. After several misses caught a strong WBT around 9''. Afternoon sunny with masses of fly activity but no sign of fish. Plenty of other wildlife seen including a small deer.
Parking down track no problem - a great location.

Blank, but an interesting day anyway. Yet again that cold and increasingly strong wind was blowing over the pastures. For a long time, nothing seen hatching or moving. Just before 12, the first rise of the day seen in a foam line at the entry to a deep pool. The fish took a size 14 Parachute Adams first time over it, jumped twice when the hook was set to show his considerable bulk, then streaked down past me in the shallows to the pool below, where he made a beeline for a mass of roots and debris. I thought I had no choice but to hold hard, upon which the 5X tippet gave way with a nasty jarring twang. So much for the first rise of the day. The second and last one was about 2 hours later, when I found another fish rising at the head of a pool. That one took a Hairwing Sedge and the hook was set again, but it came off after a couple of seconds. That was all the action and so I was thoroughly trounced by the trout of Bucknell. Never mind, it's worth the ticket price just to wander around this lovely place, particularly the cricket bat willow plantation. One day, perhaps, I'm going to come across an off-grid cricket bat whittler, seated under a tree and plying his craft
