Weather conditions: warm and sunny. River very low and clear. No fish seen or caught.

Euro nymphing. Cold wind, bright sunny day. River current very strong and water level high.

Fly fishing, river in good condition, directions could lead to confusion as a layby near allotments with gate the track is further on past the houses and track on left minor pull in on left after track. Nothing caught on the day, fishers should take note my wife was attacked by a pheasant, seems to be lot about in the area. Fishing was good easy wadding

River very low all fish caught on hares ear flashback nymph in the pools. Largest fish about 8 inches. If fishing this beat again I will make sure there is more water.

2 Trout

As I arrived at 0730 the rising sun had turned the previous night's rain into a fine mist that hugged the hollows and the course of the river, which reminded me what a stunning beat this is in the summer when the foliage is rampant.
The water was quite low and clear, even after the rain, and I could see to the bottom of nearly all of the pools. It was also extremely slow moving with some pools feeling like small ponds. I fished nearly the entire length of the beat, bar the very top heavily wooded section flowing next to the crop land, and was unable to spot any trout - although a bow wave as I clumsily approached the last pool before the fence dividing the pasture from crop land suggested there are still some here.
A lot of fry were apparent and nymphs clinging to rocks, so I don't think the river has dried up and then started flowing again this season, but the water was fairly warm at nearly 17C and I suspect the fish that I was after had all moved into the shade of the heavily wooded banks at the top end of the beat or else to different sections of the river where deeper pools can be found. I expect it will pick up again if there is some reason and cooler weather in September.

Amazing Kingfishers!
Fish in the river, low water, so quite easy to spook. Very hard, technical fishing but a stunning beat and an excellent day.

Very hot afternoon. Bright sunshine. Low water. Nothing doing but a beautiful spot. On it's day this must be a great place to fish for a few hours.

Arrived at the river full of expectation following a couple of good catch reports from this beat recently. This part of the Teme has a habit of drying up in summer...but not yet this year! Alas, the river was still high and coloured following the wet weather of the past few weeks.
With hardly any rises spotted, nymphing the shallow riffles produced 4 small wild browns (biggest 8 inches) with 4 or 5 others lost. All were in extremely good condition, beautifully marked and as fat as an English football hooligan. I also lost a substantial fish that leapt twice before shaking the hook. I had it at least 2lbs.
A great beat to fish in lovely surroundings. I hope to return when the water has dropped and cleared a little.

4 Trout

15 x trout 6-19 inches, all on a dry Monnow Gosling. The first two fish, taken within 100 yards of each other, were 19 inches and 16 inches. Most of the rest were in the more regular 6-13 inch size range, and then a 17 inch fish came at the end. Wow! Where do these magnificent fish come from? All of them, large and small, were in absolutely the pink of condition, fin perfect and fat. If you want to understand my feelings about this very special day, scroll back and read my report from the same beat in October last year, when it seemed devoid of life. On this occasion the flow still seemed very slight in the middle of the beat, but the pools were populated all right. A variety of flies around from about 10 AM, including olive uprights and iron blues, with various sedges. A very few mayfly began to show from about midday, but a mayfly pattern was what they wanted. Wonderful place to fish. Didn't see many and caught none. 4x4 access has deep ruts which makes for an exciting drive, the parking at the other end is excellent. Water level was getting low but yet another great spot to spend the day.
