A big plus on arrival as ground dry and hard so able to drive down the treeline and park by the river halfway alone the beat. Walked the beat and good to see number of swims cut out upstream, access to all the swims is excellent with strimming been done with a balance between convenience for the angler and maintaining that natural/wild feeling.
We fished 3 swims downstream of the trees. Garlic meat was the go to bait accounting for all but 1 of the chub, the other and the 2 barbel succumbing to paste wrapped green lipped mussel 15mm boilie. Chub to 4lb and barbel 4-5lbs.
River seemed low and clear, blistering hot day with factor 50 not really working. 1 angler on far bank in latter part of day but he obligingly chose not to fish opposite us.

A very hot day on the river which started very slowly but eventually managed some small Chub on the float at the top end but the generator noise precludes prolonged fishing in this area.

Early afternoon was somewhat marred by a scouts canoe group doing capsize training a few yards down from my chosen swim. I was about to move to avoid the chaos when my rod hooped around, and so began what was to be a noisy, chaotic yet productive afternoon/evening.

After 3 hours the canoes moved on and I had a pleasant late afternoon evening of Barbel and Chub sport.

It appears that the Barbel were shoaled up as the two other anglers I was with could only find Chub and Eels.

Written on behalf on the other two anglers that I booked on to join me. Moved around on the float all morning taking the odd Chub and then settled down on the feeder for the afternoon. One angler suffered the extraction generator noise close to the top end caught some Chub and eels but at least avoided the canoe carnage.

The other angler fished lower down in the more flowing water but for three hours endured the noise and disturbance of a scout group living their best lives. It's great to see young people having so much fun but 3 hours of screaming and capsizing canoes is not conducive to a good days fishing.

We are not new to summer fishing the Wye and fully expect the canoes to come through but landing on the opposite bank for 3 hours without a thought to anglers spoilt the afternoon. There are some signs further upstream about canoe landing being prohibited but there needs to be more signs, particularly where there are gravel beech areas where canoes can easily be landed. This would make it easier for anglers to politely request that they heed the signs and move on.

A great beat in general but not the best day on this particular occasion.

Tough day. Particularly after a good day on middle hill court.
But that's fishing.
There are a few more swims opened up since our last visit. But weirdly one of the best barbel swims has been left to become completely overgrown and inaccessible . Think it needed more water on .

On trotted bread flake. Temperature was miserably hot. Left after a few hours. Can get a wash off if in flood but not if too hot. Poor really

The river was a lovely colour and looked perfect.
The four of us all caught chub with the barbel shared between two anglers to 7lb 4oz.we all float fished pellet waggler.
The swim choice on this stretch is particularly good and I would like to thank the landowner for the work that has been put in strimming and making easy access to the river.most of the other beats need to follow his example.
Thanks for a lovely day.
