Arrived to find the river up and chocolate brown with a fair pace to it Very quiet day with nothing troubling the rod top except vast amounts of blanket or silkweed which coated everything, masking the hookbait and smothering the feeder.
Looking at the river level gauges everything seemed to be gradually dropping in the evening which is when bites started to occur. An eel of 1.5lb started it, a gnarly battered looking barbel of not quite 5lb gave a great fight despite its torn, bent and mangled tail not to mention a 50p sized sore on its flank.
A chublet of 6oz swallowed a 16mm pellet and finished with one of 2.5lb on meat.
Can't wait to return though to what is a breathtakingly beautiful stretch. All sorts of creatures to be seen, egrets, herons, buzzards, deer, all manner of birds but the crowning glory was a goldcrest sat in the tree above me.

Stunning

River has extra water in still, about 2 ft. Picked up fish steadily. Weed was a problem, not visible in coloured water so it cost us some tackle. Pellet and bomb tactics. No feeders today.

Stunning beat as always. The floods or earlier this year have torn some trees out but not affecting any of the main swims. Lesser spotted woodpecker seen and a red kite too.

8 Barbel, 5 Chub
