Fished in very bright and hot October conditions and struggled a bit.
Two of us in meadow and one in woods, only one barbel caught.
A lot of weed started coming down mid morning making fishing very difficult .
Like Courtfield though and normally fish it when we come down

A tough day with "midsummer" conditions coupled with a low clear river & an otter seen 3 times on the upper stretch actively fishing.
Only the 1 fish just on dark but a good one over 9lb.

Back to a scorching summers day with the sun's reflection from the water making it difficult to see your rod tip at times. Despite our best endeavours did not get any interest until late as the light faded when one 2lb. chub obliged to stop a blank.
Thanks WUF.

Last day of Summer, ?
Blazing sun and summer heat with a low river looking fishy greeted me at 10 am
Spent the next 6 hours frustrated , looking for shady areas on the far bank in all the swims at the upstream end, losing a lot o gear in the process
An afternoon break waiting for the sun to go down
Who can complain sunbathing on such an indian summers day
Not having fished for barbel this year I think my skill base was also sadly lacking...
Soon as the Sun went below the far bank tree line action picked up
You just cant believe the power of these fish or where they had been the rest of the day as when they are on it. they are on it.....
Standard 25mm halibut pellets seemed to be the order of the day with all exotic mixes ignored.
I had fish tearing off up stream, down stream.. hook pulls at the net and 50m away , savage bites which resulted in nothing... except for a fish scale on the hook.
3 big wye fish to the net, all around 7 to 8lb , who knows? but the story of the day was it was just a fantastic day to be out and I was very lucky to be there

3 Barbel
