A difficult day, blazing sunshine and a stiff breeze that was a bit chilly. This is a fishery I know well, so after the previous day's sport at Foy I had high hopes of a bumper catch, however apart from one chub in the morning, absolutely nothing until 5-6 pm when the barbel started to come on the feed. The barbel were of average size i.e. 6-8 lb on feeder/pellet. The colour was dropping out of the water together with a slowly falling level and I suspect the sunshine kept the fish away till late... . But it was another great day out.

Disappointing day arrived to find the river low and clear. We started in the orchard and during the day worked our way up stream trying different baits pellet, boilles and luncheon meat but to no avail. It's a lovely stretch of water with plenty of wild life to keep you entertained. Three guys fishing the opposite bank arrived and within a short time we're into the barbel we saw them land three and lose one so it showed the fish were feeding but unfortunately not where we were fishing. I'm sure we will be back when the river has more water in it.

A very enjoyable day soaking in the autumn sunshine. I had a barbel first cast and then it all went very quiet until mid-afternoon, when I caught steadily until the end - mostly smaller fish, but a really enjoyable day. A few fishermen on the opposite bank, briefly, and no canoes at all. Thanks WUF for a great day.

Water levels still up and very murky. We had to search for the fish, but eventually found them on the upstream pegs. We used swim feeders, with either luncheon meat, halibut pellet or spicy sausage pellet on the hook.

A very tough day in tough conditions (very bright all day with a strong/cold easterly wind, lower than expected river levels running fairly clear. apart from a couple of hard earned chub nothing prior to the sun going down. Had 1 barbel around 6.5/7lb on last cast.
(my friend who was fishing with me in the same swim also had 3 barbel at the very end of the day with all the fish coming in the last hour or so). If we could have stayed longer I'm pretty sure we would have carried on catching..

After a difficult day on the river a week or so ago (very low water) I had been interested to see that the levels had risen following rain in the following week. A very hastily arranged day off from work saw me heading up the A40 at just after 6 in the morning, arriving on the beat at just after 8am. The river looked in very good condition for barbel - good flow and colour - so I'd decided to start in the wood and make my way to the meadow if needs be. First cast produced a tap - a chub maybe? - that didn't develop. Second and third casts produced nothing. Fourth cast saw me latch in to and land an 8lb barbel, and the next six or seven casts were just as productive. I ended up with 8 barbel between 5 and 8 pounds and a solitary chub. By about 1.30pm, having endured two or three uneventful casts, I had to conclude that the fishing had switched off - as it does so often in the middle part of the day. I decided at this stage to head home, I'm sure that the afternoon and evening would have produced as well but I'm not that greedy! Wonderful day's fishing on one of my favourite beats, when the conditions are in your favour it really does make all the difference!!
Whilst I did have the chub and one barbel on meat, the most successful bait on the day was hair rigged 8mm pellet, either a pair or a triple, wrapped in a paste made out of the groundbait. To be honest I was surprised not to see more chub... and for once, no eels! (Though I seem to be in something of a minority in that I actually like them!)
Thanks to all at WUF and Don the fishery owner. Hoping that there may be one more visit before it gets much colder.
