Further rain yesterday had caused a rise to 0.98m on the Ross gauge for the morning. Visibility was around 3 to 4 foot and we fished the Stones and Vanstone. After a lengthy lunch away from the river we fished for a couple of hours in the afternoon but visibility deteriorated and the river rose to 1.3m. One shad or seatrout hooked on a spinner but no other action.

We started early to avoid the heaviest rain but no fish were seen, nor indeed a single fly, in over three hours’ fishing. Very cold and wet by 1.30 when we decided to call it a day. A very nice piece of water, however, which will be re-visited in hopefully more promising conditions.

I think £14 is very expensive for 900 yards fishing most of the beat was too fast to hold any fish and the top 300 yards is covered in Alder so not accesible, also no signage as to beat limits or where to park

Just fished a window in the weather before finishing with numb fingers in heavy rain. Mainly guided my nephew and glad we stuck it out as we found a lot of busy trout to 14”which were taking sub surface. Mostly caught on emergers and Usk nailers. At least the same number missed. For fish that have recently spawned they were in very good condition. Strangely, we didn’t see one dun all session.

Enjoyable day. River up a bit but clear enough to see where I was wading and plenty of fishable water therefore . Weather changeable and few rises. Caught the small brown on a pheasant tail nymph with red thorax in medium running water half way down the beat. Had few more bits on similar fly.
