Another fantastic day at Fownhope 5. Heavy rain throughout the day did not dampen our spirits or the fish. River was rising by a good foot at the end. SG and SM made the arduous trek over the hill and braved the woods but were rewarded with a fantastic catch. SG fishing from the large rock having 18 barbel best 10.7lb and 29 chub biggest just under 5lb. SM fished just downstream and had the chub catch of his life with 45 chub and 3 barbel. MH found his fish mainly on the first field and ended the day with 10 barbel and 22 chub.
Majority of the fish came to pellet tactics with red being the best colour - must have been something to do with cherries dropping into the river in the woods!!
Thankyou Wye and Usk for allowing us to fish this fantastic beat.

First time at Courtfield and had high hopes for this venue after reading some of the reports. The fish were hard to find despite the nice conditions and after trying hard all day at a variety of swims we ended up with 3 barbel and a few chub. There were two other anglers there who had little to show.
A couple of points to note for other anglers who have not been here before:
Despite a few areas having been strimmed the number of "safe" swims were limited and after the heavy showers we experienced, proved seriously dangerous. It would not hurt to have some small flat areas made without damaging the natural environment.
The canoe situation was absolutely ridiculous with a continual procession all day from 9.00 until heavy rain at 17.00 brought an end to the spectacle. We had wild hen parties, stag do's, pirates chinese tourists all ploughing through the swims in and out of their canoes. The fish are probably used to it but we were not, so will not choose this venue again at a weekend.

Access good. Well defined swims. Fairly shallow stretch. Got rained off by thunderstorms so didn't give the fishery enough time to do it full justice.

I was surprised to see the river so high at this time of year and quite coloured. Decided to float fish for first half of the day catching several chub. Then in afternoon when canoes slowed down cast feeder out a few times to feed the swim then rested for 30 mins before casting out. Had a steady run of chub and barbel just into dark up to just over 7lbs and chub to just over 4 pounds. Wonderful place to fish in such beatific surroundings still good value at 25 pounds a day, I will be back.

River well coloured and first time on the beat. Two large barbel over 7lbs and five small males, with some still producing milt. Not bad for a short day session!

Day two of our wye adventure, after a prolific day on lower canon bridge saw a change in the weather/pressure and as a result, although all the swims in the first field looked like they would hold plenty of fish only 3 chub to me and 2 barbel and 2 chub for my friend with a stonking 16 hours on the river with a gap at midday. We felt like we really had to try every swim in order to catch. With no indication of fish coming in the first 45 minutes in each swim we moved up and down the bank in order to locate the fish.
All in all a cracking couple of days and more fish than we have ever caught before on our local river the Derwent making us thirsty for more Wye action sooner rather than later. Thanks WUF.

Arrived to find the river fining down with a nice colour, started on the float and caught a small barbel of a 1lb and small chub and dace. After a couple of hours went on the feeder over the loose feed and finished with 7 barbel to 7lb and chub to 4lb, all on halibut pellet, tried corn and various other pellet without luck, overall a really enjoyable day, although I did lose 4 barbel and a few chub to poor skills !!
