Stunning scenery at How Caple Court, very bright sunny day. Thought it might be hard going and this proved to be the case. Still managed 7 chub and 1 barbel, all caught on trotted pellets. For those of you that wish to wade into the river and fish, I opened up the peg by the pump house. This is at the top of the beat. Very nice to meet the land owner and Andy the game keeper. There is a fallen tree in the river halfway down the lower part of the beat, if the Wye and Usk could open up a new peg here it could well be a great fish holding area. It is quite steep however and dog spike and rope would be a good idea (safety first).

A short, shallow stretch with the two pools the only areas worth targeting in the low water conditions. Accessibility is good and there is a pub at the head of the stretch (nice) but it acts as a lunchtime stopover for many canoeists so if canoeists put you off your fishing don't book this stretch.
Could only find one barbel but lost count of the chub up to 4lb.
I prefer other stretches to this but would fish it again in higher water.

My first fishing visit with a friend who has fished this stretch before. I will definately return after a very good days fishing in a beutiful setting. River was coloured and the weather was very hot and sunny. We had 7 barbel all weighing between 7-8lb and I had a PB Chub around the 4lb mark. Fished ledger rig with pellet.

I am afraid to say that I didn't catch anything! It was however a beautiful day, unfortunately the banks were steep, overgrown and totally inaccessible. I tried float fishing with no takers whatsoever and then tried the feeder again but with similar results. I also couldn't get beyond the first meadow.

Fished in the evening in the last swim on roadside bank with feeder and meat. Caught 10 chub, biggest 4lb, also lost nice sized barbel, approximately 8lb. Very nice swim but a bit snaggy. Will be back with some more swimfeeders!

Lovely stretch of water but limited number of swims if you don't want to negotiate a steep bank but that's wild fishing. Only 4 barbel between us but to fair we didn't fish early or late - blame the World Cup for that!

Fished 3.30pm - 9.30pm, first time on this beat and as usual a lovely bit of water. The walk to the river wasn't as arduous as we expected from previous feedback, although descending the hill in chest waders in 25 degrees wasn't sensible with hindsight.
We walked the whole beat and settled on a swim at the downstream end; surprisingly given the bright conditions we started catching almost immediately and finished with 4 Barbel each and several Chub before the fishing died down a bit around 8pm.

A very bright sunny day and as expected no sign of barbel feeding, with 6 chub caught in the morning. Later in the evening, 2 barbel to 7lb plus concluded the day nicely.

What a marvelous days fishing. Getting baked in the sun and catching steady throughout the whole day. All fish falling to pellet feeder tactics, we both caught 2 barbel each between 6-7lb, a load of chub to 5lb and CB had a nice surprise catching a stunning common carp of 9.5lb. And even when the fishing did go quiet for 2 hours it was just a joy sitting by the river watching the salmon jumping out of the water as a kingfisher flies past. Tight Lines.

Great looking, peaceful stretch of river in the middle of nowhere. Conditions were near perfect, with good water level and a little colour. Had a nice Chub on my first cast, followed by 17 others between 2 and 3.5 pounds, with all but a few in mint condition (a couple had what looked like Cormarant or Heron stabs) and 3 Barbel with the biggest at just over 6lb. I also christened a new rod and reel and had my first (and second) centrepin caught Barbel :) All fish caught on Halibut pellets or Lone Angler Sausage sizzle squabs.
Will have to come back to this stretch :)
