Went for a last go at barbel fishing, not much luck. One chub of about 2lbs caught early on using a swim feeder with maggots. Tried pellet and meat on the ledger and swim feeder neither produced anything. The river did seem high and the water was less clear probably due to the rain the day before. Looks like a good spot for barbel and is definitely worth returning when more barbel are feeding and the water is in better condition.

Cut down all my tackle for the long walk, 45mins later was fishing on this picturesque section. Unfortunately no fish, but a nice day out.

Hard, hard day. River up again over night and powering through. Managed a 3lb chub late in the afternoon on crust. Highlight of day was as I crossed the bridge a stoat was crossing towards me, he lept on to the stone pillar and then lept into the river 18ft below and swam across the powerfull flow and climbed up the steep bank and was gone. Loads of game birds about, the area is a big sporting estate. Will be back in a few weeks time.
Well done The Wye and Usk Foundation.

I am new to river fishing but had recieved some expert tuition in the previous few days. Unfortunately I completely blanked! I tried for barbel in the faster water using halibut, red robin pellets and pepperami and trotting for chub with cheese paste and maggot.

Three of us fished for Pike with baits and lures but did not catch anything. One large Pike was lost at the net at the very top of the beat. A very nice part of the river and the WUF service was great.

River low and clear, day was spent in search of pike. Only a small jack during the day, though a nice mid double as the light began to fall made our day.

Arrived at about 12, bit later than anticipated. River was up about 3ft and running through at a steady but not impossible rate. Only fished 4 swims in the first field due to the time. First about half way up, managed to lose a chub on the second cast. After an hour moved up about a hundred yards, lost a barbel (I presume, as it took off like a train) on the first cast. As it reached the far bank a salmon jumped as the fish went past, it then threw the hook in some weed. Landed 1 at 7 1/2lb on the next cast, absolutely pristine condition. After that not a thing.
Finished off in the first swim near the path. Do not fish this swim, it is a tackle graveyard.
All in all a good day. Also saw a pair of kingfishers and about an hour before sunset a Barn Owl flew out of the woods on the far bank and gave a hunting display for about ten minutes. A stunning piece of river, will definitely book again.
