The day was quite blustery with heavy showers but river levels were low and clear. The steep banks made access a little tricky in the wet conditions so a great deal of caution was required. The barbel had been elusive according to club anglers fishing the stretch as so it proved on the day. I managed a half a dozen good chub up to 4lb on pellet but the afternoon was ruined by thoughtless canoeists who decided to have a water fight 30yds downstream from me, ending up with all twelve lads in the river for some considerable time. That incident and strong winds forced a finish at 3.30 pm.

Some welcome rain all morning but meant that a lot of stringy weed coming down the river. Had to work hard and cast frequently once the mass of weed overcame the weight of the feeder. Nether the less had 5 nice Barbel and no end of Chub. Nice stretch when more water in it.

Fished the Island peg and then Wyebank Pool. Four Barbel to 5lb taken at the Wyebank Pool on sweetcorn and pellets plus several Chub to 2lb, also chublets and dace. The Barbel all taken ledgering the chub mixed ledger and long trotting with an avon type float. Lost a couple of bigger Barbel and a Chub (bit rusty this time of year)one at Wyebank and one at Island peg, found a snag just down from the island.
An enjoyable day and my thanks to Rudi for putting me onto fish.

Started around 10.30 just by the fishing hut, water clear and low, caught several chub to 4lb. After lunch moved downstream and started to catch Barbel took 3 to 6lb and lost a big one in the weed. Finished around 6pm would probably have landed more towards dusk.

My first ever trip to Whitehouse, I was very impressed with the ease of access and strimmed/marked swims. The river was very low and the weather very hot, as a result the fishing was far from easy. I did manage to extract one Barbel of about 7.5lb from under an overhanging tree in the morning, but had to settle for a dozen or so small Chub during the rest of the day.

All fish were caught on small Halibut pellets. Despite the fairly hard fishing, I had a great day in beautiful surroundings.

Although we were fortunate that the day was overcast and not too warm it was one when Mr Crabtree would have told Peter that the conditions (water clear but low with current slow - a rhyme, what next?) were not conducive to catching fish. It was not too easy fishing off the croys just past the power poles downstream of the hut. After a slow start the ghillie, Colin Richardson (what a thoroughly pleasant man) appeared mowing the bankside path (what next!). Apparently he also polishes the stiles on Fridays and gives the hut a coat of paint every other Tuesday!!

Anyway he gave us generous directions and by obeying them we caught 10 barbel, mainly small fish to 8lbs, and 11 chub to just over 4lbs mainly on ledgered halibut pellets plus a few dace on the float using sweet corn. Swims were about a hundred yards below the stile and at the foot of the island at the end of the beat. An enjoyable day considering.
