Had hoped to float fish the beach section but with the river up 3 ft it was whomping through too much.
Be aware that BAA have the opposite bank upstream from the bridge and runs about 50% of the Caradoc beat. A few BAA anglers out but we fished the top 1/3 so no issue this time. Sit it out and wait was the way to go as bites came sporadically during the day and everyone managed a barbel. Plenty of chub on maggot feeder, nothing over 1.5lbs though.

One nice barbel. Beautiful spot. Think frost in previous week slowed things down.

First visit to fownhope. Had heavy rain during the night but that hadn't really caused the river to rise. Decided to fish downstream of the woods without looking at upstream section first..... To be fair the hill is quite steep but for me it was the slippery mud on the path coming out of the woods by the house that made it treacherous. Like trying to walk up a slide covered in margarine!! One out on the grass, steep but firm under foot. Up and over 300m. Downstream looked great. Didn't go into the wood but 6 good swims between the two of us. Could fish the first two by gate to wood. Just took muddy and slippery. Shame as from previous reports the can produce the barbel. Fished till lunchtime 13 chub 1 lost barbel. Decided to get the hill out the way and fish till dark upstream. Upstream disappointing.....faster turbulent water maybe 4 swims and anglers on opposite bank. Managed 1 small chub and knocked off at late afternoon.
Coming back over heart attack hill noticed a footpath that goes away from the river and I think comes out on the corner of the playing fields which would avoid the slippery path along the field to the fishing hut and out of the woods between the house and the river on to heat attack hill. It still goes over the hill but not through all the mud. If I was only going to fish down river only that is the way I would go. Which if I go there again in drier conditions is all I would do. I will fish the Wye one more time before the winter but will pick a less popular beat. Rain and other anglers before you make some of the banks treacherous.
