Two eels

We were a bit concerned about the weather before we started but apart from 2 brief showers the brolley was packed dry at the end of the day. The fishery was alive with Chub in the 1-2lb bracket that we caught mostly on float to make an entertaining day. One Barbel of 6.14 . Lost a bit of tackle in the underwater snags. Beautiful setting and parking behind your swim but I wouldn’t attempt the driving track unless you have a 4 x4 otherwise you might get stuck

A beautiful blank

Rain after lunch in the ashes , nipped down to Builth for a hopeful Chub after a couple of blank barbel trips further down the Wye . River looked perfect on my favourite pool , tin of spam , feeder rod with small cubes in the gripper feeder . Cracking two and a half hours , 7 good chub landed , best 5lbs 1oz , few full of minnows still alive ????. Back in time to see Australia’s demise .

The river was high and access was not to easy as much of the back was overgrown. Access to the very top was not easy and anyone with poor mobility may struggle. If the river was lower we may have found it easier to wade

Upon arrival the river had risen a further foot overnight and it was not possible to reach the top of the island swims, so we fished from swims further back. Two barbel 6lb & 7lb were landed and a third good fish slipped the hook at the net after two powerful runs. 30 chub were caught several over 4lb and a couple just shy of 5lb. All fish fell to luncheon meat, pellets not proving effective. During the our time on the bank the river dropped 6-8 inches.

2 Barbel, 30 Chub

The river was roughly 0.51m on the Ross on wye gauge and had a good flow. I hunted around for the barbel but couldn’t get into them. My usual spots weren’t producing like they normally do. The river was dropping after a few days of rain but it still had lots of colour. The chub were up to 6lb. Lots being in the 3lb range. A mix of rolling meat and fishing with a feeder landed me the majority of the fish.
