Sorry for this lengthy report.
In the many years that I have fished on Wye and Usk waters I have rarely had to give negative comments. Sadly Upper Breinton has not lived up to my expectations. This was the first time we visited this stretch of the Wye and on approaching the river we wondered why there were three picnic benches set up by the bank. Perhaps they were there so you could use them as an anchor for a rope to allow abseiling down the steep bank. Whilst I’m not the most agile I can normally negotiate most situations, but in this instance I did fall causing a bruise to my knee.
There are only two spots you can reach the river and a very dodgy third all within 20 or so metres. Thankfully it was dry but in wet weather it could be quite dangerous. We had already booked this stretch in October but due to the unsafe conditions we will not be attending. I just wish we knew all this before. I hope this information will help others to make an informed decision before booking.
As for catches just two small chub were caught.
Owner Note : The picnic benches have been provided for the family and anglers use. The beat has some of the 'better' access when comparing some Wye beats. There are 4 swims, but it’s a 3 rod limit at a push for this stretch. It’s only 130m long as advertised. I'm afraid any stretch has the potential to be dangerous in the wet.

Fished river after extended hot spell so water was low and warm. Started off targeting barble on a running feeder with longish hook links. Lots of knocks on feeder. Shortened hook link and started contacting good chub from 2lbs to 6lbsength

Firstly directions to venue are very vague , signage on the entrance gate would be very useful. we did not actually fish as we could only find one swim which could be accessed and that was too difficult for anglers of advancing years like ourselves!! we will defiantly not be coming back to Sugwas court.

Arrived at 05.30am maps and directions were excellent as usual, river was extremely low & the weather had changed overnight from a predicted cool & cloudy day to a very hot sunny day and boy was the fishing hard, it was hard enough trying to find water deep enough never mind trying to find holding fish and long enough before they got spooked by the splash of my lead. Sure enough second cast in the first pool got me a fish before it went dead, moved very quickly into my next swim and sure enough first cast got me another fish until sun was high in the sky and struggled for the next 4 hours walking up and down the beat trying to locate fish, tried the usual methods and bait, pellet, meat & boilie.
Thanks WUF and Land Owner for providing excellent access to an excellent river, will be back again soon, after some well earned rain! ll
