Fished the top two swims without success, then the concrete wharf, which also proved fruitless.
Managed to find the Chub on the beach, albeit they continued to behave skittishly. Finally, encouraged a little activity from the croy.
More fish were caught on sweetcorn and luncheon meat than were caught on pellet and boilie.
Some work on the bank and some roping would prove beneficial as there were only six accessible swims.

Having already booked weeks in advance, I was really looking forward to my first session of the opening week of the new river season. I had chosen a new beat for my first session and i was delighted to say i was not disappointed. The guide maps were a great help and once on the river i could see that the land owner had gone to great lengths to give the angler (in most case where possible) good access the their preferred pegs, including steps dug out of the bank down to the river and rope to those inaccessible spots due the the steeps banks which would be invaluable during very wet conditions.
Having arrived extra early, i was a cool cloudy over cast day, the river was low but had good colour and eagerly rushed to get my first cast into the water, i did not have to wait long for my first chub knock which carried on and kept me busy throughout the day, although i moved a number of times i could not get among my target species of the Barbel.
Chub are in great shape these days my best of six being 5lb 4oz, and eel and a trout, all caught on luncheon meat, pellet and bollie.
Thanks again WUF and the Land Owner for allowing us access to some great fishing on the best river in the UK.

River level up and more colour after rain yesterday, thought might be good day, not a bite! Saw salmon leaping and what could have been a shoal of shad, to big for dace. Try again tomorrow.

I fished the creel stretch and managed to sneak a barbel and a few chub. The river was low which is understandable at the time of year. My biggest concern was the water quality which is terrible. It had a horrible green colour to it. The weed I occasionally reeled in was slimy and very unhealthy.
The fish I caught were in ok condition as they may have only just spawned but I felt they weren't in the best condition they could be and I'm sure this down to the poor environment. I'm very disappointed with the way the river seems to be going and if you follow the other comments they all have a similar theme about pollution and diminishing catches.
I have one more trip booked to another stretch in August and really hope for better conditions.
I do sadly think the river has had its day and is in need of some drastic action before the whole river dies. I can't see me and my brother returning after August. We will be looking for a cleaner more healthy river in the future.
Thanks for reading.
One very sad angler!

Unfortunately river conditions were poor due to low water levels following the hot weather, and the water quality look unhealthy with a green tinge. The 4 chub caught looked in good order, but sadly no barbel. Whilst disappointing we will return to the Wye later this year to try another beat.
