Fished downstream below the wood. Accessing the swim was difficult and would be impossible in wet weather. However, river stunning as usual, weather great and a superb days fishing topped by a 9 1/4lb barbel, along with a 6 1/2lb and a 7lb.

Only fished from 2.30pm until sundown. River was dropping from the spate a few days ago but still had some colour. I fished by the remains of the wood crib using feeder and pellet tactics. 3 barbel caught, no sign of chub. All in all a good short session.

The path through the woods and access to swims was a little dicey, the mud steps down to the water were still slippery from having recently being under water.

One trout caught on a dry fly and one on a damsel nymph (plus one large fish lost). Perfect end of season fly fishing weather and a most enjoyable day.

An afternoon session on this lovely stretch with a dozen or so chub to 4lb and a 6lb barbel at last knocking all fell to feeder fished pellets and boiles

River quite high after Storm Agnes but clear. Fished various nymphing methods, no rises seen. All the fish were quite small.

Had booked Aberedw in case Abernant was unfishable. In the event we fished it for a couple of hours and it had a bit of water in it too. Very beautiful but challenging fishing - I would add a wading stick to the felt and studs advice about essential equipment. Three trout on a parachute Adams.
