River very high which limited options in terms of swims. Managed a barbel around the 6lb mark and a decent chub just under 5lb.

The river was up and coloured as expected but between the 3 of us managed some good sport mainly from the bottom end.
Very friendly and helpful gamekeeper/bailiff.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that there is now parking at the lower end of the beat but you are better off reversing down the track (or reversing back up it) during the winter months as turning your car around can pose a problem - I speak from experience and have a 4x4. Thanks for the push everyone!

River at 2.6 at Ross, higher than I've fished MHC before, but with a morning temp of 13.5 degrees making it feel more like September than Februrary, I was hopeful. JC was on the bottom field straight so I dropped into the bottom slack that has held chub recently and odd barbel. Apart from pulling out of something first bung I only had knocks and taps not amounting to anything fir the next 3 hours on both gb and maggot feeders. As it's the best looking swim in these conditions I gave it 10 more minutes chucking the maggot feeder down the end of the slack. Two 7lb barbel in 2 bungs followed by a 3lber half hour later made it a brill day already. I fancied a go at the top swim so moved after a chat with JC who'd had a small barbel and 2 chub from slacks further up on meat. One bite was all from the top swim but JC had a 7 and an 8 from the slack to make it 3 - 3 on barbel and a really satisfying day where the promised rain didn't amount to much.

I really enjoyed fishing this beat. The scenery is stunning, and the water is varied which can suit any style of fishing. I did okay considering the conditions and fished weighted nymphs upstream "euro-style". The gauge was at .71 first thing in the morning, but a steady rain caused rising water with lower visibility as the day progressed.
I landed 5 OOS trout, two of which were really nice and over 16" all of them were healthy, lively and returned safely. I only managed 2 grayling - one around 5" and the other about 10" and had a few others hooked, but didn't get them in. I look forward to exploring more of this beat as I only saw maybe 1/4 of the water.
Overall a very enjoyable, yet cold and wet morning of fishing.

No fish caught...tried several pegs but no bites or indicators. Tried many different baits also. River was running very high with a lot of debris coming down the river. That said I had a very enjoyable day in beautiful surroundings..
