Fished the evening rise. Remarkable evening to be on the river - danica, olives and caddis everywhere!
Managed a few fish, including a sea trout that was regularly rising.
Needs a touch of rain, but a beautiful beat.

Much more than great to get back here, a favourite stream of mine. Fished the upper part of this beat mostly right to top boundary as there's so many good runs, literally one after the other. The usual battle actually getting in to the river (been a good growing year it seems) but once in then its pretty much wadeable all the way up and a fab place to be on a bright hot day. Lots of shade in the river! The usual keeping low and going along very slow, it really can pay here.

Fairly quiet on top though today , just a few mayfly and odds n sods coming off and fish not really reacting that much to the speculative casts which was unusual and the fish seemed to be much more interested in a chunky black foam beetle than any mayfly pattern today. Water looked really great, good level, clear and cool and the bed very clean indeed and the usual thousands upon thousands of the micro caddis homes on the stones.

So , it was just the two this afternoon, quite good fish though for here at 10" & 12" and in really superb condition and really strong too. Happy with that! Emerged out of the river in the evening and the meadows where full of various olive spinner doing their thing backlit by the sinking sun. Had to leave though for the long journey back home.
All just fabulous and can't wait to get back.

There's quite a few less obstructions in/over the river up there now btw as I pulled them out whilst working up.

Very hot day, clear skies. Very minimal rises seen. Saw a few trout but no interest in our offerings. Secluded, beautiful fishery.

This lovely beat has been spoiled by the recent addition of barbed wire and locks on the 3 access gates and styles by the farmer, which has completely blocked off the top 30% of the beat. It seems this is a deliberate measure, an attempt to stop people fishing here.

The only access is to wade into this section, which is not ideal as it is slippery bedrock, so if you are with somebody with mobility issues or for an evening as it gets dark it will be impassable.

Can WUF raise this issue with the landowner? Access should be much better here, given the ticket cost. Effectively the top half of the beat will be out of bounds for most.

7 trout landed to 14 inches, most on dry fly in the Quarry pool.

River very low, bright sun and East wind meant hard yards. Good olive hatch brought little up but river switched on for the evening spinner fall, as the wind dropped before dark. 12 Trout from 6 to 16 inches. Happy. This return covers two evening rises and a morning.

A lovely beat, but currently "On it's bones" a couple of small browns from the shaded pools.
Looks like there's rain on the horizon, although I guess we have to be carefull of what we wish for...
If it starts it might not stop...

Attractive river with excellent pools - those nearest the road used by locals for recreational purposes.
