Another Edw adventure today..... Hergest beat .... eeekkkkkk looking lower than Aberedw beat to be honest when I parked up over the bridge at nine !!! Another warm sultry day ... I get to this one quite early as the moooooo cows are generally in the river mid afternoon so can ruin sport .... huge bull in with the herd too ....WUF can you find out if he's a friendly one !!!!! .... I'm OK I can do nought to fast pretty quickly but other anglers may not be able too on the field walk back to the car .... !!!
Hard fishing today after I thermometer dipped the water .... sat at 12.5 degrees ... Great stuff ... but like Aberedw yesterday low and lots of new, hanging tree growth ... did a lot of my casting kneeling .... six made it to the net, between six and nine inches in size .... good confident takes on my Iron blue when j could get a cast away !!!
Still a good few mayfly here, great to see ..... and the kingfishers were busy too this morning , up and down, breeding pair feeding possibly .... lots of minnows for them to be honest !!!
Got to the Hergest falls at half twelve a lovely session, my last fish in the plunge water just to the side of it ... nice splashy hit to my dry ...... lovely job ...
Walk back was pleasant but keep an eye ... or" two " on the cows and particularly the rusty brown bull .... he's a big meat head .... you won't miss him !!!
Anyway a lovely three and a half hours sport on a favourite stream ..... can't beat it !!! Home time and rustle up a late lunch ....... up in the Elan Valley early bells the weekend... see how they're doing on dries...... Happy days!!!!

Very warm day. River low and no fish rising early on. Tried Nymph around 2ft depth but nothing. Halfway through the morning tried dry, parachute adams. Had a fish take but spat out. No luck. A couple of browns leaping out of reach and that was it.
Too warm and water low. Lovely day though.

Very low water at the moment, Access points are limited and there are a couple of tree's down and blocking progress while wading at least 2 different points.

What a disappointment.

Living locally to Hereford I have been lucky to fish a number of the wild streams. And whilst I always try to find the positive, this is without doubt the worst beat I have fished.

I caveat with saying I only fished from the bottom of the beat to halfway, but this is an awful stretch. For starters the entry point to the beat is not maintained and with high barbed wire fencing I was forced to find a small tributary and follow its course into the main stretch. I spent a good 45 minutes trying to access the beat.

The beat it self is high sided and fenced with no exit points until the halfway mark. The river has several large obstacles which can’t be climbed over as the river is too deep. Forcing you over barbed wire. The beat is simply not maintained and I must say one more than one occasion I feared for my safety.

Had this been my first experiences I would have not returned to the wild streams. I strongly advise giving this a miss. For those that have only experienced this beat I would encourage you to try some others as this is, I am pleased to say, not the norm.
