An interesting day, more fish caught but lost on snags including 3 barbel and a few chub.
We explored the top end of the beat but alas no means of reaching the the bank. Eventually found a couple of spots towards the lower end of the fishery which were accessible with the aid of a rope. Such a shame that no one seams to be responsible for maintaining the access. This could be a really excellent venue.

River in perfect condition; weather damp and muggy with no wind until late afternoon. Sand martins have started to head for sunnier climes. Fished from 11:00 to 17:30. A dribble of olives coming off throughout the day, peaking between 14:00 and 15:00. Some smaller fish rising in Llanobery Pool but were not interested in my offerings. PTN around the edges of the faster runs also unsuccessful. Retired defeated and frustrated - with only a month to go to the end of the season!

My first time on this lovely stretch and a cracking day. River a little high. Trotting with a centre pin all day - only fished the streamier swims at the upper end of the beat. Sausage meat and luncheon meat bait. It took me a while to suss things out - an hour or so before my first fish, but by the end of the day I had 30 chub to my hand and lost several others. Most were 2-3lbs, three fish 4lbs plus. Frustratingly no barbel, although one of the fish I lost could have been. I saw barbel turning on the surface.

The day had a questionable start when I noticed my buddy's new 11ft, 3wt nymphing rod with a fancy green butt end stop. Hmmm, I thought, that's two extra feet of reach (one rod and one line) over my 10ft rather shabby piece of equipment. But I reassured myself - size doesn't matter, or so they say. The day was overcast and the river in good condition so I looked forward to good days euro-nymphing. He has always been, and probably always will be, a better river angler than me but by the end of the day we had 11 fish to the net and only one of them was mine! Of course, I blame the rod! Was my humiliation complete? Oh no. A wading misfortune left me not quite feet up and head down, but very close. Oh the indignity!
On a more serious note for the WUF administrators - I started my fishing at the downstream limit of the beat. The map shows that the beat finishes at a stream inlet on one bank and a canal overflow further downstream on the other. I entered the water within the Dinas beat, waded to the middle of the river and fished the opposite bank from the canal overflow upstream. After a short while I was challenged by another fisherman and told I was fishing his beat - the next one down stream from Dinas. I didn't want to argue with a fellow angler so I left the water and showed him the map. We parted on good terms wishing each other 'tight lines' . I resumed fishing upstream and he fished his beat. I promised him that I would raise this with WUF to ensure the accuracy of the map, which I now do. That said, would you advise me whether in similar circumstances, where the fishing rights associated with a beat end in a staggered way, is an angler entitled to wade to the limit of the beat and fish towards the bank indicated on your map which offers the longest option from the middle of the river?
Fishing Passport Note : Fishing more than half way across the river (at single bank fisheries or where staggered) does happen, but it is usually an agreement that fishery owners have between themselves and a certain amount of etiquette normally applies whereas anglers will not fish across if the opposite bank is occupied. Technically, however, it is illegal to fish more than half way.
