Nice venue, and very picturesque opposite the National Trust gardens. Car access to the river is a big plus... Need to take it steady though in an estate, no problem in a 4x4. We had to work for the bites, on both float and feeder fishing and whilst we had numbers most chub averaged just under a pound! Good sign for the future but not a sign of a barbel... where have they gone! Be prepared to loose a few feeders and have hooklink cut as they're seems to be alot of rocks in some swims.

Nice stretch with good step access to pegs. Water quite low and clear. Most Chub on trotted meat though the biggest (around 5lbs) took pellet on the feeder. Three barbel (lost a fourth), biggest around 7lbs, ground bait feeder with variety of hookbaits. First came around 10am, swim went very quiet during middle of the day, took a break for lunch and returned round 4pm and it went crazy for a couple of hours.

Arrived at about 8.30 and hiked up to the Edw Pool hoping against hope that there were a couple of salmon waiting for me.
Alas no, the pool was occupied by two otters, most indignant at my arrival. Didn't bother to cast a line and retreated back down to Lady Alexanders. Worked my way down to the end, without success.
Retired for a coffee and a rethink. A pair of Egrets arrived and commenced making an early lunch of the plentiful fry in the margins.
To save a blank, the trout gear came out. I had not seen a single fish rise during the morning, so went the nymph route.
Only managed a single graying, about 8", after fishing hard throughout.
The rain came at about 2 o'clock so decide to call it a day. Walking back to the hut another otter appeared, and just as I was leaving a squadron of goosander arrived.

Enjoyable day, whilst they certainly weren’t climbing up the rod there was plenty of action at times. Strangely no bites from 6-8pm. The work Stefan the bailiff is doing here is excellent, the beat is well looked after but still feels very natural.

Lovely river but no sign of fish life (barring minnows in the shallows). Lowering level and drop in temperature overnight did not help. Access a bit tricky and mostly overgrown restricting to roll casts only. Saw a kingfisher but no other birds.
