Introduced a work colleague to grayling fishing today…. A good beat to learn on with friendly wading. The grayling weren’t as co-operative as last week but showed enough interest for my colleague to bag his first ones ever. Significant interest too at the end of the day when fishy activity was noted which didn’t fit the usual pattern. Turned out to be a shoal of dace which were great fun for the last hour of the day when 8 came to hand. Good to see them ….16 fish in total, 8 grayling, 8 dace between us.

There was a match on the far bank, no where to sensibly fish without causing issues.

Would probably be good with a bit of water on.

Lovely beat, lovely day. All returned alive and well. Few lomg distance releases on small greyling. One detail to update- we couldn't unlock the gate for the top access as the lock must be new- it requires 5 not 4 digits.

This report is for 2 anglers CT and AW

CT - 5 Barbel and 2 Chub - biggest Barbel about the 5lb mark. A much tougher day today than last Tuesday the 13th, as we had the first night time temperature drops marking the end of summer and the start of autumn - into single figures for both Sunday and Monday night.

AW - 2 Barbel and 2 Chub

The day started great after a leisurely breakfast at The Olde Ferry Inn we piled into the motors and headed for Home Fisheries. After a bit of a twisty journey we ended up at the said fishery. By 1030 on the second cast a 6 1/2 lb barbel was in the bag and I was feeling confident of more. Unfortunately that was it for Barbel. 2 more fish followed a 4lb 13oz Chubb (a new PB) and an eel. The river got busy with canoes and the fish seemed to switch off. A lovely beat with great access

Weather conditions and low clear water in sunny conditions made fishing difficult. Like many of the Wye and Usk stretches there are not many places to get in.

First time on this beat, absolutely beautiful spot but river very low, which is just nature's fault.
Somewhat surprised at the 4 picnic tables, would not be very happy if these tables were to be used by families as suggested in another post, especially should they have dogs and children throwing sticks/balls in the water for the dog to fetch.
Another serious problem in my view is the access due to a metal grate set in concrete, which has caused some considerable damage to my alloy wheels. Once again the problem could be easily solved by simply trimming the corner off the concrete base. Once again the landowners responsibility in my view, it would appear that they just take the money and couldn't care less.
