Smashed a load of jobs early .... so to top of a fabulous week on the streams I headed for a familiar stomping ground .... The Edw @ Hergest !! Got there at two, she looked a picture, again !!! Lots of olive upwings and Mayflies ..... sport was sublime this afternoon and with careful wading, literally takes not even the rod length in streamy water to my Rusty klinkhammer and Para Iron Blue, some nice fish too in a tally of eleven .... sizes ranging from eight to twelve inches , lovely job .... but mega fast here .... till I'd zoned in I missed three on the bounce , doooooh !!!! Lol !!
Just the best, catching little feisty brownies on light tackle ... nothing beats it ... its really good tenkara water here at the mo , and a slow mooch dipping a kebari fly in the faster water would get a response, be fun too .... I know B.P from Pembridge has great success using tenkara tactics ......
Saw a mandarin duck close too....
Stunning birds ... almost look not real , those colours, fantastic !! Fished up to the waterfall where just below it saw a splashy rise , had a take and twas a good fish too but didn't make it , oh well thats fishing hey .... another lovely four and a half hours on a favourite beat , I got out half six .... loved it ohhh and I built a pebble pillar whilst I had a break and enjoyed a half melted snicker bar ! Lol !! A fun week .... out on the mountain bike around the Elan Valley tommorrow , lovely job .......

Good river flows but not a huge amount of activity in shallower runs today. Some flies hatching in the afternoon but the fish weren't taking these. The 3 trout were caught in the deeper holes using a contact nymphing method. Good size fish - 29cm, 28cm and 25cm. A beautiful stretch of wild river set in a stunning valley.

A most enjoyable day on a lovely beat. My thanks to Allyson for suggesting the beat and arranging access.
Two large salmon jumped in the lower part of the beat, one of about 6lbs and the second well in excess of 10lbs by my estimate. Flies coming off steadily all day and a few fish rising, but not interested in my offerings. I have been away from the river for far too long. Started to get the feeling back towards the end of the day but was resigned to a blank when a very obliging Chub took my dry Mayfly. A beautiful fish of about 2lbs safely released back into the water. A Chub was a first for me.
A highlight of the day was watching the Sand Martins picking off the Mayflies as they emerged. I would see a fly rising from the water and next moment, bang it was hit by a Sand Martin at full speed. Their agility is incredible.

After a morning without an offer the evening was fruitful with some excellent quality trout netted and released to swim off powerfully . The fish fell to dry medium olive patterns . Following a vigorous fight , the heaviest fish was around 2lbs ,with the rest on the 1lb mark. An enjoyable day on a classy, easily accessible, beat.

Great walk along the river, although don't try car park C as I did, track blocked by fallen trees so walked, then through steep wooded area to find a five foot drop all along the edge of the wood - I would have got down but not back up. Nymphs swung across worked for me, 1lb trout biggest.
