fished the bridge pool both fly and spinner, had shad but nothing else, up to Hellrug or the spout fished the main pool and then down to the tail and bang into a small fish 4 to 5 pounds, three seconds later it was off, so more disappointment oh well thats fishing. Up to what was my favourite pool the Willow, and what a surprise the whole pool has changed and shifted , not sure about it now.

Thousands of May flies on the water but not a trout in site. I covered the full stretch and saw one fish rise the entire evening

Beat:Edw Hergest
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
As with earlier reports from April, Hergest seems trickier at the moment than it traditionally is. Several fish rising short to gnats, Adams, and the one that came to hand was on a jig nymph under Hergest falls. Water conditions were ideal height, colder than usual for May and fly life was present but less that expected, gnats being present and LDO spinners which never touched down enough to generate a rise.

Sunny day, but wind still in the north. Saw hardly any rises in a morning session, but caught three tiddlers on nymphs. By the evening a lot more fish in evidence, but they weren't taking what I offered them, either nymphs or dry. Caught one more.

Parked in the layby on the A465 and made my way upstream. Weather cloudy with sunny intervals and a very annoying downstream wind. Tried nymph in the fast riffles at the bottom of the beat with one take that I didn't make contact with. Changed to dry when a large hatch started around 11am, but for some reason this season I can't make good contact with the fish. Dozens of takes but only one 12 inch fish landed.
Although there were people walking on the far bank I wasn't bothered, and the dog walkers respectfully kept their dogs out of the water once they spotted me.

A calmer day with a much better evening rise. Saw two dead fish in the river in the long pool downstream of the parking area in the field. Lots of fun in a beautiful spot.

Fishing was a little slow in the morning, couple bites on and of then around noon time it was great, caught around 11 altogether, kept 4 and released the others, not very big fish, around 1 to 1 1/2 lb , but put a nice fight.I’ve been using spinners , mostly Mepps or Savage Gear.

A good hatch of olives in the middle of the day produced a couple of fish, a couple of good looking fighters. The weather was partial cloud with sunny, warm spells

Beat:Lower Longtown
No. of Anglers:1
After a couple of hours on the upper beat and a sandwich and cup of coffee while watching a couple of range tip butterflies feeding I decided on trying the lower Longtown beat. I’m glad I did.
There was another good hatch of fly at about 5.30. I lost a small fish and then managed to get into a bit underneath some trees for the best fish of the day.
There were a few mayflies in evidence.
