Lovely brook to fish, definitely need a short rod. Most activity was just up stream from the parking spot with a number of fish rising, caught a lovely 9-10cm trout. Some movement further up stream close to upper limit. Would definitely return to this spot.

Conditions good and a steady flow. Trotting the main flow for barbel but couldn’t get through the chub, however lost count of the chub I caught on the stick. Still a great days fishing with great surroundings. Will be back trotting for the barbel . 1 barbel on the stick worth 20 on the lead.

Lovely fishery and water was rising, saw a couple of salmon ! I'm disabled and didn't fish due to the in-accessablity of the swims but my "rookie" partner did. the chub were all small under1/2 lb. the other was an eel.
We fished Dean and Chapter yesterday and the beat would benefit people like with the provision of some simple boarded steps.
I appreciate the Foundation don't want to give any advice on accessiblity for fear of recourse! but they could do more and I'm sure funds are available (lottery/ DDA monies etc)

Fishing Passport Note : The Wye is a SAC and SSSI, meaning the river and its banks are highly protected under law. There are, therefore, strict limits on what can be done to improve access.

Got to the spot at about 7am. I sat on the bank at stone catch and watched a few fish jump whilst I had a coffee and setup. I started down the bottom and worked my way up. About halfway up I had a little salmon parr take my PTN. After that I moved up to abernant stream (for some reason skipping out Lady Alexanders Catch). There wasn't much doing on the stream but up at Edw Pool there were some 20 big fish hanging around just above the fast water, their bodies flashing from the sun as they turned on their side to eat. I tried every type of fly I had, flashing them right across their faces 4 or 5 times. They didn't take anything I had to offer though, and after about 90 minutes and 20 flies of trying, I gave up. I guess they were Barbel? Although I didn't think you would find Barbel that far up the river.

After this I headed back down to lady alexander's catch where the fishing is by far the best! On my second cast i hooked onto my first wye fish and first river brown trout! This spot is really great just allowing the fly to drift down the outer seam almost always yielded me a bite. I was fishing a dry fly (can't remember which) but I had a PTN, with a black and copper coil body which was tied onto the dry fly with a uni knot. I hooked two more here that got off and a number more bites. I'm just a beginner and learning so I was over the moon with my one trout although for the more experienced angler I believe there are plenty more fish to be caught here. Excellent beat for the fly!

Quiet compared the the last time we were here but compared to then far less fly life about. The odd olive throughout the day at was enough to keep the fish interested in short 10 minute spells. Most fish came from the top of the beat in the evening when a shoal of grayling were showing interested in a very small fly staking in the faster water. Biggest grayling 14 inches and biggest trout about 19 inches.

There was a family with 3 or 4 canoes at the bottom of the beat, kept out of our way and got out after 10 minutes when we carried on fishing.

Another good day, thanks!

Lots of water (unlike anywhere else at the moment) and some larger trout far out in the middle (although one was on my line for a few moments before jumping off)
