The last part of the beat just 100 metres before the pedestrian bridge has a really big fish.
It jumped just in front of me, one that shout be 40cm.
but I didn't catch that one. Catch and release both fish.

Like the Sunday reports, myriad flies of all sizes on the water but only the odd rising trout, could not see which fly they were after and they refused standard offerings. Nevertheless, kept searching the runs and landed 6 (7 to 10"), 4 on paras and 2 on a "dink" GRHE. Missed as many again in the clear water, but a lovely day exploring the water in the June sunshine!

3 trout about 8oz and 1 trout about 4oz. May I suggest, please, that someone looks at this beat. It looks a mess with plastic rubbish and has a poor "feel" about it.

Circumstance forced a late departure meaning I didn't get to the water until 3pm. Very strong wind throughout but few fish rising just by the bridge when I arrived provided 30 mins of sport. Missed several, caught one WBT of around 7 inches on a cillabaetis comparadun.
A flash of rain and all surface activity stopped, although there were still a good number of flies on the surface - a mixture of olives, large yellow mays and terrestrials. Nothing else seen or caught until 6.15pm when one riser was spotted just before the bridge at the end of the beat and tempted by a black and white spinner. Lovely trout at about 9 inches.
Both returned.

Beat:Pontithel - River Llynfi

Fishing:Winter Grayling

No. of Anglers:1

3 x grayling 10-12 inches, 5 x out of season trout 9-11 inches. A proper solid grayling came off after a few seconds in one of the holes. This is a new beat to me and I didn't really do it justice - the nymph rig I use on the Lugg and the Arrow doesn't seem quite right as this is a much more open, clearer stream. But it's a very nice stretch of water with good access and some interesting pools. I look forward to fishing it on a dry fly day.
