A good days fishing, 5 WBT and 1 decent sized Grayling, all caught nymphing. I did see the odd fish rise to the surface and I had a couple of refusals on a March Brown dry fly (need to be quicker), only a few may flies coming off the water today. River conditions good, a dry day and about 15 degrees. A great beat to fish, easy wading and access, parking close to the river and the pub.

Beautiful spring day - a cloudy start cleared to blue sky and intermittent cloud, a soft gentle breeze and the temperature rose to about 17/18 degrees by mid afternoon. Fished the beat above the bridge first. While there was a gentle mixed hatch - grannoms, olives and something very small - there wasn't much surface action. This briefly changed between about 12.30 and 2.00 pm. But the rises were intermittent and not sustained. I had a good trout on in the Salmon falls streamy water on a team of spiders - maybe 1-1.5 lbs - but it threw the barbless hook after 15 seconds. A few other suicidal parr/small trout did come to hand but nothing substantial. Headed down to the bottom of the lower beat after lunch. Not a lot happening there, but it was beautiful and good for the soul to search the streamy water with the hope of a fish. Nice water but I got the feeling that either the fish haven't really woken up yet, or the river is too low or more likely my limited skills were not up to the challenge. A day on the river is rarely a wasted day though and it was lovely to be back on the Usk.

Large grannom hatch more-or-less all day. Some March Browns as well. Water levels low and a lot of algae coming off the bottom and floating downstream. Very few rises but a salmon jumped near me.

Beautiful setting for a day's fishing with a good amount of bird life to watch

Back visiting the area and hoped the Honndu trout would be active. Lovely warm day with some bright sun. Water at good height very clear. But only intermittent fly life, trout ignored the few around. Tried copper john, ptn, grhe and black perdigon but nothing 10.30 to 4.00. Ah well, fantastic to be back in the hills!!

The house martins are back! Forecast was for overcast skies, warm, no wind. Actually, bright sun with a moderate cold east wind. No sign of fly life or rising fish. Teased out one BT with a PTN on the riffles. A sporadic hatch of olives around 15:30 brought some fish to the surface. Took a couple but missed several more. Hatch over by 16:00. River would benefit from some rain.
