River up about 12 ft and only just within its banks, managed to find a couple of areas of slack water and caught a nice Barbel of 7-8 lbs, also lost a couple to hook pulls. All in all a decent day considering the conditions and happy to avoid the dreaded blank

Area:Upper Wye

Beat:Abernant

Fishing:Winter Grayling

No. of Anglers:1

Water was quite flooded out from all the rain making access to wade near impossible except along the margins on the main stretch. Challenging day one grayling on a pink tag up against the bank. No signs of life for the rest of the day.
Loads of leaves and logs washing through. Two orange white water rafts with 6 folks on each came paddling through the beat early afternoon.

Great day on the river, attrocious fishing.

Only one barbel mainly due to the river conditions-unable to hold bottom with 5oz leads.

River 3m+ up, a lot of swims unfishable! Feeder and PVA bags!
This beat needs some work, could do with more swims being cut out!!! £22 for 3 fishable swims ain’t great!?!
Fishing Passport Note: River conditions of 3m+ will always mean only a few swims being fishable on nearly all beats. To change this would involve wholescale bank clearance, something that would ruin the wild nature of the river (one of the qualities that makes the Wye so special), as well as being illegal in a SSSI.

2 Barbel, 1 Chub
