River 3m+ up, a lot of swims unfishable! Feeder and PVA bags!
This beat needs some work, could do with more swims being cut out!!! £22 for 3 fishable swims ain’t great!?!
Fishing Passport Note: River conditions of 3m+ will always mean only a few swims being fishable on nearly all beats. To change this would involve wholescale bank clearance, something that would ruin the wild nature of the river (one of the qualities that makes the Wye so special), as well as being illegal in a SSSI.

Caught my first double figure Wye barbel after travelling 111 miles for 1.5 hours fishing. River was lapping the top of the banks and tanking through at 3.9m so I stopped at the first slack I came to which happily was 100m from the car, opposite the house at the bottom end of the stretch.

A large lump of meat did the trick with the double (10.04), and I lost another at the net too after it swam into a submerged fencepost.

Well worth the effort!

Great day on the Wye again. Make sure that you come from the A40 north (Fly over is closed permanently, which you can see on Googlemaps). Beautiful stretch of the Wye and river was up significantly after heavy rain. Fished top swims in woods, which were good and caught 8lb barbel in there (very snaggy though), late morning. Also, fished the middle swims, which were very fast flowing and caught the other barbel (8.5lb) here just before sunset. Great days fishing, with lots of bites all on bollies and pellets. The A40 is quite loud just to warn you. Will be back though

Did an hour session in the morning with a single barbel, then returned for a few hours in the afternoon. When I returned the river had risen by at least 3 or 4 feet and was raging through. I found a slack at the end of the stretch and managed to get a Wye double. The amount of debris coming down (including entire trees!) made it hard to fish barely a rod length out with a 6oz lead. Always a stunning beat to fish.

River level was rising rapidly with lots of debris coming down reducing the number of fishable swims. All fish caught on meat.

Arrived at first light and was into the barbel immediately. 3 nice ones around the 9 pound mark and one smaller around 7. All chub the usual 3 to 4 pounders. River was very coloured and rising. Had to leave by midday as river became un-fishable. When trees and dead sheep were getting washed downstream I thought enough was enough.

River rising through the day. Feeder fishing was difficult going and didn't catch. Switched to float with meat and caught 1 barbel 6lb and 1 chub 2lb. Access is good.
