Fishing:Coarse

We caught 8 barbel and 5 chub. The barbel were all weighed between 6 to 7 lb. All were caught on hair rigged pellet with a 4oz ground bait feeder. If you fish on the Lower Wye for the first time make sure you have a dog spike and 10m rope with knots at 18" centres. Banks can be very steep and slippery.

Few perch rising but no catch, not even a nibble. Tried fly fishing various types of fly and spinning with trout spinners. We went to the most northern point by the building on the reservoir. Then tried the shallow sheltered area towards the eastern side. It was pretty windy at times too, and it seemed even worse towards the areas that are fly fishing only.

A more lively beat, even in this low water, than Greenbank yesterday. It’s been a few years since I was last here and I had forgotten a) how overgrown it is and b) how many dog walkers and stone throwers there are on the other bank. I mooched around with the trout rod and had a few takes to an olive emerger but nothing stuck. There was a good trout head and tailing towards the bottom of the (dangerously decrepit) walkway. But it ghosted away once I started casting to it. I’m not sure this beat is worth the money if I’m really honest.

2nd time I've fished this beat and it's as interesting as the first time!! Very short of water and fish were very wary. Caught 2 WBT below the waterfall and one above all on grey dun PA. I look forward to next spring here when there is more water!
