Looking at other catch returns, it would appear I did rather well, although it didn't feel that way at the time. Lovely lovely beat. Very secluded once away from the house. Beautiful and varied water. Yes, access difficult and there are many parts unfishable with the fly. The pools and ruffles more than make up for it. Had a chunk of a trout using a gbhe in a deep pool, 2 grayling from the faster runs and a chub from a classic chub swim, under a tree... Where there were one or two much bigger fish present... But of course the smaller one beats them to it.

A very enjoyable beat with ideal weather, but low water conditions.

Two smaller trout taken on the nymph and one specimen fish hooked then inevitably snagged and lost on the dry! Rocketed up from a deep 5ft+ hole at the bottom of one of the longer flat pools.

As reported river is very low and in need of a storm. Many good fish showing under bridge ,mainly chub, but proved difficult to access swim. Mixture of feeder and trotting,12” depth!!!!, produced fish all day to punched bread. Lost a lot of gear trying to find any sort of depth.

Well let’s start with what a trek, underestimated the woods walk. It is brutal with all your gear but it’s worth it. Chub constant throughout the day, 10-15 around 4-5lbs as well as 2 barbel. Not massive, one about 1-2 lb other about 4lb. Lost a barbel that felt a good 7lber. All in all a great days fishing. A bit confusing getting to the spot, walked round to the end of the wood to find a locked gate saying go round the wood. No way was that happening so we had to hop it. A bit more direction on this would be good, also maybe a sign at the car park to direct anglers around to the right so you’re not walking through someone’s garden lol. Bloke fishing the weir and must have been from about half hour - hour before sunset. Had an altercation with him as he wanted the whole weir and end of weir to himself, pretty selfish in my eyes but as he wanted a peaceful days fishing he moved on. Just a tip, don’t break the rules and I won’t break the unwritten rules ;) Hope he bagged up and had a good day anyway. Would definitely go again and would highly recommend.

Last visit for me during the trout season started well with an early brown trout caught on old faithful, a copper john. Went quiet for a while, before landing a grayling on a cdc down in the ferry pool. An hour of comedy followed with tangle after tangle and a moment of madness where I got both flies caught in my waistcoat, prompting me to consider throwing everything into the heirag.
A cup of tea, a sandwich and a stern word with myself brought me back from the brink with a team of traditional wets and a further six fish. Mostly small, although one of the grayling and a second trout were worthy of respectability and placement in the middle weight division.
Weather was pleasant with intermittent sunshine. I shall return when the leaves fall and fish for grayling.

Lovely day on the river, very low allowing access to the gutters and pots. Trickle of small olives and odd stonefly fluttering. Best trout 1lb and 3 grayling of similar size late in the afternoon on small olive CDC dries. Really picturesque beat the Wye valley in all its autumn glory.
