A tough day. Was hard to find a good spot to fish so ended up in the shallower part of river. 2 eels and a small chub, plus lots of canoe traffic. Still the sun shined and views were nice.

I was fishing the stretches in the first field after the woods. Chub were steady all day. I caught one barbel in the afternoon and the second on the last cast of the day, just as it was getting dark.

A pleasant day on a low, clear river. Not much rising; but steady progress, fishing the stream, and working up river. None of the flurries of fish that you associate with this beat at this time of year; but enough happening to keep me occupied. Used the same Klinkhammer all day, Size 16, tan with a fluorescent pink sight bob, expertly tied by my good friend Andy Miller. I don't think the fluorescent pink makes any difference to the efficacy of the fly, but it certainly makes it easier to see. Like all beats the river desperately needs some rain but regardless it’s a stunning beat. We fished downstream into the shallower swims and managed to locate some Barbel and Chub. Not much showing until late on as you’d expect but a very enjoyable day had by all.
