Had the beat to myself so was roving the margins for pike, float-fishing deadbaits. River still very low and clear despite rain overnight. Started grey and mild and had a take (missed) before catching a fiesty pike below the island that broke the surface attacking the bait. Then the wind really picked up with bright sunshine and it all went quiet. Tried trotting some corn and bread for chub for an hour but couldn't see the float for waves and glare!
Had a second pike on static bait late in the afternoon when the wind and sun had calmed down.
Also saw my first Wye otter which cheered me up. I doubt the previous comment made by another angler about the otter killing the swans and geese, which sadly are still there. Most likely, as WUF mentioned, deaths were a result of avian influenza which was reported in the area.

A lovely piece of water, fished hard in what seemed like perfect conditions for the time of year, 2 good grayling landed, 1 lost. Definately coming back.

First time on this beat. Absolutely fantastic location. Water seemed very low, and I couldn't find any fish. This might have been due to the 2 otters that appeared at the bottom of the beat as I was tackling up, and followed me all the way to the top. Seemed quite indignant that I should be fishing in their back yard.

As it fished well yesterday two of us came back today. Same weather and river conditions. I managed to catch a 5.08 barbel today to go with 4 chub on meat or maggot. SM didn't catch his first fish till 1500 but added another 5 after that all on meat and all over 3lb. Again a lovely day.

Mild start to Feb with the river at 0.5m with a good flow and a hint of colour. Had 3 nice chub early but moved after a biteless hour and a half. Started catching again early afternoon and added another 6 chub with the biggest over 5lb and the rest all a good stamp. Caught on maggot, meat and cheesy garlic dumbells. A lovely winter days fishing.

Couldn’t resist coming back for a second time. Lovely river and good sport throughout the afternoon on trotted maggots. Hope to be back next year.
