Another very enjoyable day on our favourite beat. Fished 3 hours before going back for lunch at 1.30 which produced 4 Barbel, 2 of these going 9.11 and 9.7. Started again late afternoon with 7 further Barbel including 3 over 8lbs. Fished the gully in the faster water using mainly PVA bags. Hoping for similar success tomorrow when we return!

This was my first opportunity river fishing in the UK and I am glad I picked this stretch of the Wye. A beautiful and productive beat. Fishing just the early morning and evening sessions I landed two brown trout, both taken on dries, however, a more experienced fisherman would have had an absolute field day. Fish were feeding on the surface throughout both sessions and I missed a lot of takes.

Water was a bit murkier than expected. Most of the river I could wade. I found the upper stretches more difficult to access and in the evening session stayed in the lower reaches to avoid a canoeist party who were set up on the shores in front on the farm house on the opposite bank.

I had countless rises to Tups Indispensable - all small fish and couldn't get them to take the fly or at least the hook. I had a similar experience but hooked 4 fish recently using a small gnat type but with white on it to make it visible.

My second rod was fishing on a stream for the first time and caught his first grayling - tiny but they call count and one more than me using a small Klinkhammer.

Access below the bridge was ok and above the bridge through head high shrubbery and nettles involved a wade down to the bridge and the fished upstream.

Just need to work out how to hook the little blighters.

River level up around 4-5" from a couple of weeks ago. Cloudy with sunny intervals but with a strong breeze which swung through 180 degrees over the course of the day. Only the occasional olive coming off, with surface feeding fish limited to small stuff on the flats. WBT taken on PTN on the edge of the fast water above the bridge. Spooked a decent salmon wading across the very shallow water at the tail of the Sewage Pool.

New venue for us, interesting access to the beat.
Mixed weather of sun and overcast but no rain, ideal day. River height looked good but very coloured. We are more used to the middle Wye beats with fast shallow and clearer water. This has deep runs with a slower river pace. We had some good weight chub but the barbel deluded us. We tried a variety of baits that have been previously successful, just one of those days.
The location is stunning, a beautiful part of the Wye Valley.

First time on this beat. Staying at Poston Mill, so had fished their stretch of the Dore earlier in the week. This beat is a different prospect altogether. True jungle fishing.
Started off at 8.30 fished until 12.
No fish seen, so just flicked a dry fly into likely spots. Lost 3 landed 1 of 6".
Was going to come back in the evening to try nymphs in some of the deep holes, but the test match and beer intervened.
Will definitely be coming again, I'm sure there are some nice fish in there.
