Fished the left hand bank from 5 o’clock to 7:30 and managed to catch a barbel just as the sun left the water. It was the only bite, so a welcome surprise given the conditions. Fished pellet on a running lead.

Baited the swim little and often for an hour with hemp and pellets then fished a small bag with a 14mm pellet on the hair. River very low and slow still but a very enjoyable evening

Bright and sunny, really hot, so nice to have some shade. Loads of chub in this section, difficult to find the barbel, had one at the end of the day.

Terrible today, hardly a sign of any fish in the river. Not a place to come if you want peace and solitude, all the accessible swims are straight across from the weir gardens on the opposite bank so you’re fishing to an audience. Unfortunately we put on a poor show for them today though

After a cold start, a warm and sunny morning, on a low and clear river. Probably the lowest I have seen this beat. Did not bother with the horrible rocky water at the bottom of the beat, starting in the run below Lady Alexanders Catch; fishing the stream with a Klinkhammer. The odd fish, small Grayling, or so thought I, rising; so I was surprised (gobsmacked more like) when the 21 inch trout came up for my Kinkhammer and set off for Erwood. The first time a river fish has taken me onto the backing and, unless you count fish from the Test and the Avon (which would have been stocked fish), my best ever river Trout. Almost certain it was a wild fish; perhaps Oliver Burch can help me out here, but I am not aware of anyone stocking this section of the Wye.
Grayling a plenty to follow; perhaps not quite the same size as last week's Dowdowlod fish and, unlike last week, a lot of missed rises and long range catch and releases.

Beat:The Rectory Fishery
Fishing:Trout (River)

With the river running at summer levels this allowed wading access to areas of water that are often out of reach. All fish were caught between the bridge and the top of the beat, Island Run, in mid stream and towards the far (right) bank. All but two fish were caught on dry patterns; Double Badger, Griffiths Gnat & Black Klink, sizes 18 & 16. Only two of 4 rods booked fished & we finished at lunchtime, so the potential for a significantly higher catch return was there.

A very nice spot and great weather, if a little too hot. Lots of surface action (including some seriously large fish jumping) throughout but difficult to get the pattern right to attract much attention.
As a note to further anglers. We parked our cars in the provided location only to have them attract the attention of a herd of young cows. As lovely as they were, we did not appreciate the mess they made of both vehicles: they licked them both 'clean', causing scrartching of the paintwork; they smothered them in dung; they also chewed plastic parts of the bodywork and tried to pull screen wipers off. So, if you see any young cows in the vicinity and if you care about your car, then I suggest you leave it in the farmyard and walk to the river.
