Tuition time for 4 novice fishermen... they all enjoyed their day but no catches to report unfortunately; Well that's not entirely true, one intrepid caster, once he'd mastered the bale- arm business did manage to 'catch' the opposite bank four times ,losing all the end tackle each time. I only hope he catches a fish soon or the enthusiasm may wane a little?
As usual a beautiful spot to spend an evening.
Thanks WUF.

Chilly August day but great conditions for catching Barbel & Chub. Fished the fast water at the end of the beat and caught fish all day on and off, all on feeders and meat. Great beat with brilliant access.

Breezy day, good conditions, managed to locate the carp and landed 5 commons up to 12lb, lost 2 to hook pulls.
These fish are super hard fighting, suitably strong kit is required if targeting the carp.

Fish taken pretty regular throughout the day from the faster waster, fishing under the rod tip I still had a canoe wipe me out - I was camouflaged so I was hard to spot but clearly they were going to mount the bank anyway.
Apart from that a good day

The river was low and with only a choice of three swims to fish we were defeated before we began.
The beat seemed expensive for the options you have to fish when you get there, access is tight and if the lay by is full near the bridge then you can find yourself with a fair walk with your tackle.
Fished using a method feeder with pellets and boilie - ended up with a chub of about 1lb and can't see myself returning any time soon.

Cool overcast and looking like a good day as I had a bimble with the pooch out at six bells ! Had some jobs to do but a few spare hours in the morning so headed for the Whittern beat ,.as its very local and an easy wade as well !!!
Looking low but clear when I parked up at half eight ,.fished a Parachute Iron Blue the whole three hours I was there this morning . Some great takes too ,.conversion rate was down this morning and trout initially winning with two on the bounce missed and lifting into nothing . . . . Oh well that's fishing hey !! Eventually contacted with a nice brownie from the first long glide !! Nice twelve inch fish too . Next two fish were ditto in size, both about ten inches ,.subtle rises too ! But the usual good scrap for Arrow fish . . . Last one was along that section before the huge log jam , nice splashy take and a surprisingly decent fish from such low water !!!
Four was my lot to the net this morning,.a lovely relaxing slow session upstream, I generally only do half this beat at a time and today also cut through into the open field after that lovely run of riffles .
I did have a mooch under stones too , rammed with caddis ,.under most of the bigger flat stones . Also plenty of bullheads which is a good sign and also two small crayfish!! Feisty little blighters !! The one was ready for a scrap!! Both slipped back in !! Plenty of invertebrates too , which no doubt keep the bullheads tubby !!!
A fun three hours , very very tricky at the mo with the water so low !! OK if you don't mind stalking risers at a snails pace with tiny dries !!! Heading out to the Elan Valley Monday . . . . Catch some big air and hopefully some brownies!!! Happy days . . . . .
