This beat is slippery due to algae and wading is very difficult. Caught one small but beautiful fish in Dry fly.

After my close encounter a month or two ago and seeing the river had risen during the week I thought there might be a slim chance of a salmon today, however upon arrival the river was well and truly back on its knees, very low. However while walking to the river seeing a huge silvery salmon leap clear of the water before crashing back down had me quite excited again, even if it was in the adjoining down stream water. A salmon was always going to be a long shot so an hour or two on a dry fly resulted in a nice Grayling and a trout of about 8’, I also managed to miss 10-12 other rises, still trying to figure out why.
Another lovely day on the river, thank you.

Evening session - First time on this beat for me. River was very low. Not much activity when I first arrived however it did liven up after 7pm with fish rising along the banks . 3 trout taken and returned on a parachute Adams in the faster water. Largest was 15 inches.

Water low and clear, little fly activity and nothing rising except 3 large trout under the Titley Bridge who treated my offerings with visible disdain. Other than this no fish were evident. The river is a lovely set of pools & riffles, enough LWD to satisfy the most extreme WWT member with plenty of gravel & easy wading. Unfortunately there is also a lot of filamentous algae which indicates a heavy pollution load either agricultural or more probably sewage.
As we have the same problem here, I went up to the Hergest beat to have a look and where there is clean water and almost no algal growth in spite of the cattle having some access to the river; a striking contrast and the finger pointing at Kington sewage works. A water company releasing untreated sewage? Surely not!

Beat:Bideford Brook
Fishing:Trout (River)

11 x trout, 8 - 10 inches, klinkhammer, PTN jig and squirmy-wormy.
The water was low and crystal clear. The foot path along the brook was very over grown. However it meant less dog walkers and I pretty much had the Brook to myself.
Hooked 4 trout downstream of the bridge but didn't land them. Luckily, 11 more came to hand upstream of the bridge, ranging between 8 and 10 inches. All looked fat and healthy.
Four fish took s14 klinkhammer. The rest fell to s18 PTN jig and s14 squirmy-wormy. Great day.
