Hardly any swims usable. Does the Wye and Usk ever check that the fishery owners do any work to make swims usable. At £25 a time it’s a disgrace.

Booked an evening ticket but got badly delayed by traffic after work - only one lane on Severn Bridge west-bound (for no apparent reason, sigh). However I did get a couple of hours in and to be honest it was hot early on so I probably ended up fishing at the right time anyway. There were a few olives and spinners around which encouraged the trout to feed when the temperature dropped - caught three off the top on spinner patterns, could have had a few more which came off the hook. Lovely beat as always, kingfisher hunting next to me in the shallows of one section and repeatedly taking small fish to it's burrow in the opposite bank, lots of sand martins and a common sandpiper there too, and was nice to meet the owner and one of the neighbouring season rods on the other bank for a chinwag - an idyllic summer evening which more than made up for the long travel delay!

early start and all fish came between 5am and 8.30 - lost a couple of decent fish in the rocks and snags on beat 2
-should have packed up when it got hot and sunny - but sat it out and cooked without a bite for 6hrs - with about 200 swans and canada geese my swim looked more like Slimbridge at feeding time, made it really hard work at times - not sure id fish this beat again til the younger birds have moved on.
