Despite losing my rig box, sliding into the river like a RNLI lifeboat from 20 feet up the bank and somehow dropping my sandwiches into the drink, I had a wonderful and very productive day. Loads of action, pretty much all afternoon into dusk. Poor angling (I'm easily distracted) meant I should have caught double the amount. Must try harder tomorrow.

A lovely afternoon, although the downstream wind got a bit stronger as the afternoon progressed. Water level was good and overcast. Dry fly was difficult in the wind but had a couple of pulls on the flats. PTN took the only catch, a small WBT bought to hand. Lost another at bottom of beat. Pheasants, andKingfishers were lovely to see but the highlight was a salmon jumping at the pool just down from top of beat....

Pleasant days fishing, lots of bites nymphing and a few rises on the dry. Easier wading above the bridge.

Overcast for much of the day and slightly cooler than the previous day. The barbel proved to be difficult to locate but the chub were very obliging with most over 3lb up to 4.09. All fish were caught using a feeder with either pellet or boilie as bait.

First time on this beat. It’s very much like the wooded section of Courtfield (next door) so ankle breaking rocks under foot and no way of getting your rod rests in!
Three of the Barbel were under a pound and the other 3lb so this section of the river is Barbel crèche this time of year.
The constant snags, fast water, lost tackle and fish mean that, to me, this beat Is perfect for a day trotting rather than the pellet and feeder tactics I tried.

Beautiful stretch of river that I haven't visited for a couple of years. One pool at the middle of the beat has suffered major alteration in the floods, including a tree being uprooted and now forming a sort of island between new channels. Water very clear and quite high, but a cold wind and the few fish moving were all too easily spooked.
