Tough going in hot conditions, river low and clear...tried a couple of spots and rotated pellet/boilie/meat - lovely spot...will return in better conditions

First time at this beat. Easy access, easy wading. Love the refreshing gin clear water in summer. The beat had some opened space and tight in some corners. Fish-able with 8'6" rod for careful casters or 6'-7' for those like me.

Low and clear water made the fish easily spooked. Many were in the unexpected shallow, which darted away even before I attempted to approach them. Occasional rises but never repeated. Tried duo, heavy nymph in riffle with not much success. Eventually, saved from the blank by 3 WTB on a single dry, targeting the shallow ahead of riffle with snail-pace wading and keeping low.

Had to work harder for my fish today on a low, clear river. Three fish from the bottom meadow, including my first Wye Trout of the season, then nothing until I moved up to the top of the beat after lunch. The Trout were small but, once again, the Grayling were a good size, with two fish at 16" and one at 17". All on weighted nymphs

Very sorry to hear the news about Stephen

A bit disappointing this time, compared two last session on this beat. We had a few eels and a few older battle scared looking chub, all taken on meat and pellets. No Barbel compared two other years! The water also looked off colour and the streamer weed all seemed to be brown not healthy looking! We would normally see swans feeding on this but nothing this year! Apart from this the weather was good to us again. We will be back next year though and try again as love this beat. P.S. Also towards the end of the day on the upper part of the beat there appeared to be a stray dog which swam through two lines before we could get them out resulting in it hooking it’s self. Not sure if the counts on catch return.Than goodness for barbless hooks!! The owner did eventually appear and was apologetic but she said “she lets the dog off in the top field and it runs straight for the river. Be aware of this one!
