I didn't arrive until 13:00 so I think I was fishing the hardest part of the day. Hot and sunny.
Only saw one fish rise once and that was it. Plenty of insect live but the fish didn't seem interested.
Still it was an enjoyable few hours

Never seen this river so low. Though day cause of the low level. 2 small BT around 6/8 inches with dry fly and another 2 missed. Spot several big graylings and BT too, but the absence of water makes fishing extremely difficult.

Arrived pm and walked the two fields to the wooded area. This had been quite recently fenced off so that it was almost impossible to access wood/bank - particularly if infirm (as I am). Managed to get over via a fallen tree but with difficulty. The bank side in the wooded area was difficult to access (would be more so if river higher than it was today) and the wood itself high banked. I think there should be a public footpath via the wood but I could find no evidence of the path or access to the wood. Reached the end of the wooded area to find no exit but evidence that barbed wire had been pushed down but not far enough for me. Gave up and returned without fishing. The access to this beat must be sorted. River itself looked interesting but with a lot of weed - I only saw one rise.

A beautiful beat. Fished from 11am to 2pm and 7pm to 10pm. Not much about during the day but the evening was delightful even if I spent more time missing takes and retrieving my fly from bushes than catching fish. I took one pounder on a red spinner pattern. An Otter slowly swam past me which was a highlight.

Very sunny day and hatches were sporadic as were moving fish. Connected briefly with three good trout on top of the four to ten inches that came to hand. All on small Parachute Adams. The river really had the feeling of a heatwave about to set in and there was lethargy instead of a solid evening rise.

The river was a little higher and carrying more colour than I was expecting. I'm not sure how much difference this made, but there were only sporadic rises during the day. There were a few mayfly coming off but they didn't seem to be in sufficient numbers to get the fish really interested. I caught nothing all morning. Things picked up a little in the second half of the day and I finished with four out of season grayling and three trout, the best around 12 ounces. Two of the fish were feeding in a back-eddy on the far side of a bend: the fly does not drift naturally for long in those circumstances so it needed some accurate casting which helped me to feel I hadn't had too bad a day after all!

3 Trout, 4 Grayling
