Tried Chanstone Court for the first time. It was a sunny morning with a gusty westerly wind but plenty of tree cover to kill the breeze. This is a narrow beat with 95% tree canopy covering it, which makes for challenging casting, although roll casting will get you to some fishy looking pools. The bad news is that the water level is so low that some of the runs are barely above ankle height and water running through the deeper pools is not moving fast enough to carry a wet fly through at any pace. No fish seen rising and although I did see a couple of fish, they were holding in less accessible spots. I did rise a small fish to a parachute adams second cast which got my hopes up. However, sadly, that was the last interest I had. I think this beat this is probably not worth a return visit until the water levels are up a bit.

River impassable 300 yds from lower access point - had to return. Better from the bridge upwards. Most of fish seen were sensibly in most inaccessible spots…

Lots of trees to catch your flies so challenging casting but not impossible and they successfully kept the howling westerly wind at bay. It’s how I like it

Cold blustery day.
No sign of a fish, did get a few pulls on a single ptn in the deeper pools, but failed to hook up.

No fly hatch and didn't see any rises, so opted for a single weighted nymph. First deep pool, fish on, felt like a good one, then it was gone. Encouraging after my blank at Abbey Dore last week. About 10 yards on, had a trout parr from a small fast run. Middle of the beat a deep pool under a tree root produced a lovely trout of 10 inches. My first from the Dore this season.

Couple more pulls but no more fish. Wildlife highlights, a kingfisher sat on a branch, dived in and came up with a minnow, and a pair of mandarin ducks.

After a long break due to low water, tried this beat for the last day of the trout season. Water still low despite recent rain, broke my small rod and no sign of fish. However, I did retrieve a couple of flies from a tree, probably mine from a previous visit!

Water level quite low and very clear. One or two rises (in inaccessible locations!). Fished from 1700 to 1900 on the bottom half of the beat. No luck but still managed to lose a few flies. Think I'll return after a bit more rain.
