A sunny day with good hatches throughout but I didn't see a single rise. After a couple of hours swinging wets I moved to using streamers which proved to be very effective. The trout wanted a fry imitation moving extremely fast. Once I'd cracked the code I caught some great trout of about 1.5 pounds and upwards. The largest was about three pounds. I also caught one chubb.

No trout caught, just a few small perch which were returned.
The water level was very high which restricted the available areas suitable for fly fishing.

Failed to get name of top angler/guide who I met on the beat. Very interesting advice from him. Will check to see if he posts.
Fishing tough but managed a few on bpth dries and nymphs. Very engaging but and earlier me would have struggled.
Fly life refreshing to see and the Sand Martins were hard at it!!

Oddly, little in the way of hatch or rise. Two modest fish (up to 12") on PTN. Could the cold water presumably being released from very full reservoirs following such a wet Jan-Feb be inhibiting the expected olives hatch? Seemed to be more spinners than duns (though few of either). The river is still quite high following 3 weeks now with no rain, and little flow in the brooks. (I saw there were plenty of minnows about, some quite big, which could possibly be imitated by streamers)

Lovely day, warm, light breeze, cloudy with occasional sunny spells. Lost a fish early on, however my fishing partner managed to land a couple. Very few bugs hatching, saw only two fish rise all day.

I trout (1lb) caught on a salmon fly and returned.
1 probable salmon on the line for several seconds before jumping the hook. It was too heavy to be a brown trout, if not a salmon it may have been a sea trout. Hooked at the neck of the main pool. Lovely stretch of water - beat owner very friendly

Whilst the river was nice and clear, the rocky bottom was covered in a horrible brown slime (biofilm I assume).
There was absolutely no vegetation in the submerged sections and with 3 people fishing, over 3 days, we never even saw a fish, let alone catch one!
What has happened to the wonderful River Wye? I have to say, after our experiences of the past few years, we probably won't be returning to this river, which is a real shame, because the area and the people are amazing... but it's pointless going on an annual fishing weekend, if there are no fish.
