An aweful day on the river.

Started in the faster water by the island but moved due to the number of canoeists beaching on the island opposite.

Moved upstream by the steps and again it was impossible to fish, the river looked like the M25 with canoes, it seemed most were on stag weekends judging by the noise and behaviour. We were even treated to some swimmers and paddle boarders thinking it was great fun to fall off in our swims.

Maybe just an unlucky day but very frustrating, the fishing never stood a chance. Both fish caught by the steps

A strong wind was blowing from the dam direcation which made fishing difficult. I fished from the southern end to half way down along the western bank, mainly looking for sheltered bays, and had one brownie on a Coch.

Perfect conditions today, mild overcast and light breeze. Not much rising so stuck to small wets Bibio hopper taking most fish. 14 Trout mostly 8 to 10 inches. A couple of Cormorants visited in the morning but surprisingly didn't stay long.

Arrived late afternoon for a short evening session and was amazed how the beat has changed since my last visit in May. Massively overgrown along much of its length, the river not visible through 8’ high ferns, the path has disappeared with long grass and weeds to wrap around your feet and trip you up, nasty bitey insects and a long, hot, sweaty walk to the far end of the beat where the river is more accessible...I hate the summer!

Once fishing as the evening progressed there were plenty of rising fish to target but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what they were rising to, I managed 3, lost one or two and missed more than I’d like to admit. An entertaining enough evening before the long walk back and a pint in Llangynidr. Thank you WUF.

First time on this section. Two of us fished the top end of Legg Meadow from around midday to 8pm. There were certainly plenty of canoeists, kayakers and paddle boarders. We even had a man come past on an inflatable pink flamingo. The canoe traffic eased up considerably after around 4pm.

In retrospect, it may not have been wise to concentrate all of our efforts in one place. We were hopeful that the fish would come over the feed once the various daytime disturbances subsided and the light began to fade. Despite ringing plenty of tactical and bait changes though, it was not to be.

We managed just a few Eels and had no sign of a ‘proper’ fish all day. That’s fishing I suppose, some days you just have to accept that its not your day. The river was carrying a brown tinge which I think was an algae bloom.
