Barbel of 10lb 4oz and 6lb and a chub of 4lb. River at 1.05m (Lydbrook gauge) and falling. Air temp 21C, mostly light cloud with some bright sunshine.
Fished the Meadow from 5am and had the 6lb barbel at 6:30am. Nothing besides small knocks on the feeder and quick chub bites until I caught the chub and the larger barbel on consecutive casts to the same spot around 5pm.
Lots of swims with issues accessing the water at present due to the steep banks, conditions were dry today but would have been treacherous if wet.
Loads of canoes but none of them came near my line.

First time on this beat. Good variation of swims. Bit busy on the other bank but it was the weekend. Dry track to river, wouldn't do it in in the wet without a 4 x 4. We had a couple of barbel and a few chub in the afternoon then decided to switch into a different swim for the evening and that got us another 9 barbel.

Cracking day, good access to beat with a lot of work already carried out on cutting out swims, well done to those.
Arrived early with cool and over cast conditions and river nice and pacey, settled in one of the swims in the first field, good place as any, caught a chub first cast followed in quick succession with two 8lb+ Barbel, fishing slowed after that and with the sun coming through, a swim change was in order with a few more after that, didn't get another fish until midday a fine Chub just before calling it a day. Bait was 14mm & 6mm Pellet and groundbait feeder. Well done WUF on continued the hard work, i'll be back for another session quite soon.

Used meat as bait. The morning was more active than the evening.
A lovely spot but very steep access which was slippery in the early dew. I would not to fish there in wet conditions, just too dangerous! Could handrail/ ropes be installed or am I just getting old?
The 'other' fish were all eels. Can anyone recommend a good way to unhook them?

Beat:Pantyscallog

Fishing:Trout (River)

I fished for five hours from around 10am to 3pm. Very few fishing rising during these times and so I fished with nymphs. The Pantyscallog beat is wild and beautiful, the river here is small and has lots of typical upland features with waterfalls, gullies and streamy riffles. During my brief visit I only found fish in the deeper sections with reasonable flow. They were small to 10 inches. I also met and had a long chat with the owner who lives at Pantysgallog House and who was very nice.
