Beat:Abbey Dore

Fishing:Trout (River)

I fished the Abbey Dore beat after a couple of days heavy rain and although the stream was not in full flood, it was not gin clear because of run off. It was colder than normal as well.
As others have mentioned this is a challenging stream to fish and needs some attention to make it fishable. I managed to fish the stream by wading the complete length of the beat up stream and there are some deep pools along the way.
I spent 5 hours during the afternoon and there was a good Hatch of Yellow May Fly. I only fished dry fly using Parachute Adams, Klinkhamer Emerger and the nearest representation of the Yellow May Fly all size 14.
I caught 6 WBT in various pools and mid stream down the riffles, also had a few more takes. I did see a few rises, but on this stream it's very difficult to cast and distance because of the vegetation. There are many good pools and deep edges to target.
Although, it's a challenging stream, it is also very rewarding and doable, but you will need to be adventurous. Along the way I saw Kingfishers and many other birds and the beat is set close to the Abbey which is worth a walk around.

The water was low and muddy. In the evening, when I went, there was little sign of fish except for a few splashy tiddlers. I tried a nymph with no success.

WEED and LOTS of it !
Great to be back on the Wye again but wow so much green stuff .
Fishing quite hard as is quite often the case early season. A short feeding spell brought most of the fish and then it went dead just when we thought the fish would have another munch but only 1 more barbel just before dark . Thanks to all at WUF and the owner who popped by for a quick chat.

Fished well given the conditions - hampered a touch by drifting weed. Caught in all the obvious swims. Meat, pellet and corn on the hook. Barbel to just under 8lb and Chub to 4 1/2 lb. Lots of Dace, Chublets and an Eel on meat.

Great to get back on the Wye at last. River up to 0.83m on Bredwardine gauge, rising about 0.3m in the day. Weather very mixed, wet early on, drier later. All fish taken in bottom field swims on pellet, boilies and meat. Highlights were a 2lb perch on a 22mm boilie and a 9lb barbel on a 10mm boilie.

Fished both lower stretch and wooded area (rain had made underfoot conditions treacherous in the woods, (most definitely not recommended without climbing rope as a safety line).
Fish came throughout the day to both pellets & meat.
